Question about 2006 Chevrolet Colorado

1 Answer

06 Chevy Colorado lost Power steering in the snow. When I got it home, the power steering wheel was coming off the shaft. Is there suppose to be a bolt at the end of the shaft holding the wheel on the pump, or could this be a more serious problem like a bad pump?

Have 2008 chevy Malibu Ltz.past few days the dash will say "power steering "of course wheel gets tight. it's electric..not sure if the pump is going out or if it's the lines..how can someone tell?

The system can be scanned for faults, in the is case you need that test performed. The pump only runs when the computer control unit commands it to run it is on demand, this information comes from sensors in the system..

Hard steering

it is probably in your steering rack and pinion, if you have rack on your truack otherwise it is in the steering box, you would be surprised to know how many time the main shaft gets twisted in an accident then causes steering problems

Power steering went out on a 2002 trailblazer. the serpentine belt was slipping off so I replaced the serpentine belt and pulley tensioner, still out. Pulled the steering pump, pulley shaft was broken....

Have you checked your tie rods? Possibility one is either bent or broken, I've seen it before on TB's. That pulley shaft is a common problem to break, especially when cold out. PS pumps/pulley shafts and tie rods will snap if doing donuts in the snow with the steering wheel cranked, or off-roading. The PS is completely mechanical, no fuses or relays.

hi this could be a lot of things, the only way to find out is to have it checked with a code reader, it could be something simple like a miss fire as sometimes happens or could be something more serious best get it checked out, you could have a sensor gone u/s and you might be using allot of fuel.....hope this helps

Power steering on 2006 chevy cobalt

There is NO power steering fluid in a 06 Cobalt. It is electric! This is a flaw that GM is not willing to come to terms with. Try topix.com for the list of over 350 people that this has happened to. Also, the dealership wants YOU to pay for it. There should be a recall. VERY dangerous!

My 2006 Malibu steering wheel is going bad.

The power steering is electric on that car. It has a electric motor on the column, and a control module. There are several causes that could be the problem. You need to have it scanned to get a better idea of what to do. If you can give me the codes you get then I will be glad to advise you on what's best. Good Luck

2002 Chevy silverado 2500HD No power steering or brakes

The shaft in your power steering pump has broken. Your brakes work off of a system known as Hydra-Boost. If this shaft is broken then your steering and brakes are lost. I contacted GM after I had my power steering pump replaced and they sent me a check for the cost of my repairs. My truck was not under warranty or recalled but earlier models (2500HD) had been recalled for the power steering pump shaft. The pump was the same part number for my 2002 2500HD as the recalled years. Good Luck!

4LO problem

Sounds like you may have a problem with the power steering pump. Notorious for these pumps shaft to break, causing "armstrong" power steering. As far as the 4wd low problem, ick.
