My 1986 Pontiac 6000 2.5 liter idles rough and smells like it's not burning all the gas, black smoke at times and fumes make eyes water.

Black smoke at times is a indication of a rich running condition, This is where a mechanical condition of the enigine is necessary such as the compression test

Truck runs rough and will not pick up speed also abs light came on, idles up and down.

Do you smell a burning smell? or smoke from the wheels? (brakes) You may be running with the brakes activated due to ABS problem (no pickup) and your accelerating & the PC is lowering the idle. (erratic idle?) Or a idle speed control or throttle positioning sensor? Get that one checked out. It could be as simple as a vacuum leak. That's a hard one to call without checking it out. Good luck

I have a 1993 pick up hardbody' a lot of black smoke coming out and idle is rough..any suggestions on what may be the problem?

With the black smoke, it sounds like it's running rich (too much gas going into the motor). Remove a spark plug and take a look at it- if it's all black and sooty, then yes, your motor's running too rich and you need to lean out the fuel mixture. I'm not positive, but that truck probably has a carburetor and you could do the adjustment yourself, with a little help from a shop manual. If it's fuel injected, you'll want to take it to a shop or a friend that knows what they're doing to get it adjusted right again.

If the spark plug has little tiny clumps of stuff stuck to it you're burning oil, and that's a bigger problem. An oil leak means a fairly major engine rebuild is in store for you. If it is burning oil, I'd just drive it like it is until it eventually conks out or something else goes wrong on it. Unless, of course, the truck is special to you and worth investing in an engine rebuild...

Good luck!

My truck began running very rich little by little.

FROM WHAT I FOUND OUT ON MY SAME TRK ONLY 94' IS THE DIAPHRAM ON THE FUEL PRESSURE REGUALTOR IS SLUGGISH OR BLOWN. DISCONNECTING THE VACCUM LINE AND PLUGGING THE MANIFORD PORT HAS HELPED UNTIL I AM ABLE TO AFFORD THE REGULATOR. TO HELP CLEAN THE OXY SENSOR, SPEED UP THE IDLE AND DISSCONNECT THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACCUM LINE AT THE ENGINE. THE FRESH AIR WILL SOMEWHAT HELP CLEAN THE SENSOR IF IT IS ABLE TO BE HELPED. I AM TOLD THAT THE OXY SENSOR ON THESE MODELS IS CRIDICAL. JACK

Running very rough at low revs . high revs is ok . smells very rich when running rough

faulty plug wire only conducting at high revs, when its running rough try removing each plug wire individually and if it runs the same when you remove a certain wire then thats the faulty one, your timing could be off if that doesnt work, when you pull the wire wear a rubber glove or shut off car each time or you will get a shocking surprise

1986 Nissan 200Sx Turbo idles rough and drives rough. timeing rechecked 3 times and we just put a new rotor and Distributor cap on and it runs a little smoother. i have checked the Compression and it was...

How white? I would get a can of carbcleaner and spray a little here and there around the intake area to see if you have a vacuum leak. If the smoke is real white like the clouds the you may have an internal coolant leak to a cyl.
