If it is only a problem with one remote (the spare works OK), try this before you buy a new one.....
Open the starter as if you were going to replace the battery.
Get an alcohol pad (like the ones in First Aid kits) and wipe the contacts on the starters circuit board and the back of the buttons of the rubber membrane. Most of the time this works...

Ok help me understand this. When you say "remote starter" are you refering to the Keyless Entry remote. Assuming your car is equipped with remote start from the factory, if you check engine light is on the remote start is disabled. Is your check engine light on? Do you have multiple Keyless Entry remotes? See if the other one works if you do? It is possible that perticular button on that remote is not working while others are working. You will need to replace it at a dealership.

SOURCE: 2007 Chevy Cobalt with factory

This is going to have to be a problem with the receiver. More than likely you will have to take it back to the dealer. Their techs are the only ones trained on this system. But they should be able to fix the problem relatively cheap.

How do get my remote starter to work

The remote battery could probably be getting weak. It is a GM vehicle and outside conditions can sometimes keep it from starting..If there is a emissions problem it will disable the auto start feature so that an unattended engine does not run if it is not properly burning fuel.

I started my Jeep 5.7 Hemi with my remote starter.

the remote start my have still been sending the transponder signal to the computer when you put your key in the ignition it sent a signal to the computer as well which would have given you the problem, all you would have needed to do is open your door wait 5sec which would kill the accessory because you have your door open then start the car with your key

Keyless entry stopped working on 05 cobalt now i have to unlock door with the key and when i do that the alarm goes off. Help

Lock all the doors from the inside (with all the doors closed), unlock your driver's door by manually lifting the lock, then press it back down after you are out - this will prevent the alarm from sounding when you use the key to unlock the door.
