Ford excursion bad starter noise

check that the pinion teeth is the same pitch as the starter motor that you took out . That is the only reason for the noise unless you have not refitted the motor correctly and it is out of alignment.

Starter motor noise

Sounds like the starter bearing is dried out,(very common on VW) you cannot lubricate them, only way to fix the noise is to replace the starter. I have seen VW starters make this noise for years and still keep working, so it is up to you if you want to change the starter, noise bothers you to much, then you can change it, it will not cause any damage to your engine.

I've had my ignition replaced and my starter twice in one month whats wrong

Your flywheel may be damaged. The starter drive engages the flywheel to spin the engine. A bad ring gear or cracked flywheel will make noises you described and is ******* starters. Rebuilt starters are not always good.

I have an 1986 lincoln towncar i got a new fly wheel put on it and starter but for the past four months a have used three or more starters. everytime i start the car it has a loud scratching noise, couple...

the 4" dd starter had two different flanges for A/T and M/T. Your new flywheel probably doesn't match the teeth for the drive on the starter. Take the starter to a rebuilder that actually knows what they're doing-- not a parts store.

Starter makes whinning noise on 97 camarro .battery is fully charged and starter tested positive at parts store.

Make sure that starter wears a condom.

If you meant that the starter makes a high-pitched whine but does not turn the engine, that starter is bad. More specifically, its drive (the "Bendix") is bad.

If the starter makes a screeching noise as it turns the engine, like it is working too hard and is irritated about the situation, you need to shim the starter. There are shims available at the parts store that fit around the mounting bolts, between the starter and the block. They are used to ensure that the starter drive gear teeth are not too close to the ring gear. If they are too close, the starter has to work much harder as it forces the teeth to mesh.

If you meant that the starter makes a whining noise for a short while after you start the engine, don't worry. Many starters do that.

If you meant that the starter makes a loud whine constantly after you have started the engine, it is staying engaged. It is either bad and that is the source of the problem, or there is another problem (like incorrect shimming) that caused it to stay engaged, and it is now bad. The same gear reduction that allows a small electric motor to spin a big heavy engine can work in reverse if the one-way clutch in the starter drive goes bad, and the high speeds that the starter guts would be subjected to if this happened would lead to self-destruction.

The car refused to start, made clicking sounds @ the solenoid and the starter, still had current, the radio was working etc...So I bought a new solenoid which had an extra screw at the bottom where the old...

First, put the old solenoid back on and see if you get the original clicking noise. If yes, you either wired the new one wrong or got a wrong and/or defective part. Your clicking noise can come from several places. First, make sure the battery is good and charged up. Dirty/corroded battery cable ends (yes, even if the lights and radio work), bad connection at the starter, bad solenoid, bad battery cables. A dead starter may engage but not turn, making a kind of click noise too. Take the starter out and get it checked. Remote possibility that it is the ignition switch in the steering column is adjusted wrong or bad. A jump from the positive battery cable to the small post on the solenoid should engage the starter.

The engine will not turn over at all

Possibly could be the starter. About the only this I can tell you to try would be to tap on the starter wile someone else is trying to start it. If if cranks, you will need a starter. This is the easyist way to check it without a machine.
