Question about 2002 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

We have a 2002 Isuzu Trooper which has developed a misfire and a mechanic has told us it is 99% chance it is injectors. It has just been into dealer for check on recalled injectors and thought it was fate but they are not the ones being recalled. They were replaced in 2006 though. Also the turbo was replaced about a year ago. Few teething problems with it which we had to get our mechanic to sort. Was billowing black smoke more than usual. Could the turbo have wrecked the injectors perhaps? Dont want to go to all the expense of replacing them if that 1% proves not. What do you recommend.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think any Trooper was ever turbo charged.

You need to get a tech 2 plugged in to the car , that will see if its injectors or not and if the turbo is boosting correctly .

I would try my tip for testing the rops as well cos its free and easy to do and can cause the misfire you describe ..

Isuzu 3ltr turbo diesel no fuel to injectors

this is USA forum, and we dont have this car.
IT'S NOT A USA 2002 DIESEL trooper.
that and exact engine, size.
we have, 3 gas engines, 2.2L,3.2. and 3.5L
here. only and books that cover only those 3 engines.
so if a diesel dies.
what>?
check fuses.
scan it.
check filters
try test fuel to see if it runs on test fuel
test the glow plugs yet,?

if pump pressure is dead,?
check, power to the pump yet? (fuses are first)

there are 4,.6 and 8cyl. diesels by Isuzu.,
which is it>
they have names.
7 diffr. B engines, 3,xxxx liters.
and
5 diffr. 4Jxx series engines.
my guess is the engine is.
3.0 L 4JX1 TD I4
3.1 L 4JG2 TD I4

wiki says.
"
European and Asian buyers could opt for the diesel engine option of the 4JG2 3.1-liter (later superseded by the more problematic 4JX1 3.0-liter of 159 PS or 117 kW)
4jg2 is indirect injected
4jX1 is direct.
apples and orange diffr.! injection classes. '

learn what's under that hood, then fix it?

what country
what engine, real names, not 3L vague-ness. please.

Sounds like injectors are plugging up. Run a bottle of Diesel fuel system cleaner w/your next tankful. It might take two times but injectors get gummed up easily.

Dealer wants $1000 to replace isuzu trooper LS FUEL PUMP something about having to reset the computer and special tools to replace pump is this a fair price or!?? Thanks

well i just called auto-zone and they only want $105.00 for the fuel pump on that 2002 trooper Ls. So i would have to say that's way to much money!!!! that's $900.00 labor..( for a 3 hr job.) that job i would do for $450.00-$500.00 total. And a dealer has all those tools already, its not like there going to go out and buy the tool to do your SUV so that should have never even been brought up....and resetting the computer is nothing, i would run as far and as fast from that place as possible. find a local mechanic shop (not dealer) to do the work. and tell them you already priced the fuel pump from auto-zone $105.00 ( and you will get an honest quote for labor.)
