Transfer case is under your feet not in the rear. There is however a rear differential that can whine. Also could be a wheel bearing there is one on each side of the rear axle. You need to jack the car up and rotate the wheels by hand looking for leaking fluid or noise.

How to fix whinning noise when car is accelerating, or turning? Is the whinning noise an electrical issue, fuel pump, power related, etc.?

the whining noise is your engines alternator bearings
they are worn out , the alternator is close to failure
it is barely producing any voltage
( the battery light in the dash only indicates that the alternator is no longer generating any amperage )

are you sure the noise is comming from pump and not the belt tension pulley right next to it ?

I use a wiffle ball bat with both end caps cut off (hollow tube) held to my ear to help localize noises on running engines I have even found tricky intake vac leaks with that trick

I think you will find that this noise is due to a failed transfer case component, the best thing to do is buy a rebuilt unit from GM or you can locate them online as well.

Was pulling out onto the highway when truck shifted from 1st to second gear a clunk noise happened n now i have a whining sound and no reverse. transfer case or transmission?

this sounds like the ******. if it were the transfer case then you would loose all foward and reverse gears, but since its just reverse i would say its in the ****** and also the whinning noise is very common when the pump is going bad, have the ****** checked out. good day.

It could possibly be your rear end/transfer-case/transmission/power steering. Where is the noise coming from and when does it mostly occur?

1994 Ford Ranger 4 wheel drive does not work. Lights turn on.

High mileage truck I am assuming? Sounds as though your transfer case chain has broken. You can get kits to replace the chain. Or, you can find a used one from a wrecking yard to swap into place. If the truck is good otherwise I would not give up on it. A transfer case could run you up to $600.00 depending on weather it's new or rebuilt. A kit can run you $200.00 to $300.00.
