Just make sure the same bolt goes back in the same bolt hole. many older car engines had this for mainly for testing oil pressure before assembling the engine at the factory. kinda neat back then. is yours a jetstar engine?

None. Sometimes the attaching bolt goes into the oil gallery. Make sure you use a thread sealer on that bolt.

MY OLDSMOBILE 1984 ROYALE 88 HAS A CONSTANT TAPPING SOUND. THIS MORNING ENGINE WAS SHAKING A LITTLE BIT. WHAT IS WRONG

I have the same car, and I had to change the crankshaft and oil pump. while doing so, the 3piece timing set had to be replaced and the gaskets for the timing set, oil pump and water pump had to be replaced....along with the oil filter and oil. it's basically rebuilding the bottom of the engine.

Replace water pump on 1998 Old. 88 How extensive is the repair?

Not very. You will need to take off the drive belt, then remove the small bolts that hold on the water pump (usually about 6). You may need to gently pry the old pump out of the engine block. Make sure to remove all traces of the old gasket material or it may leak. Installation is the reverse of removal. The gasket will only fit one way, and be careful not to over torque the bolts, as they can be easy to strip.

We are tryng to remove a water pump from a 1998

there is a hole in the pulley for the power steering unit. That hole accesses the bolts to drop this unit down and then you can change the water pump. The trick is getting these two bolts lined back up to reinstall it

How do I remove oil pump pulley to replace the water pump?

If you mean the power steering pump, it will have to be removed to access the bolt. It's just 2 bolts. You get them through the holes in the power steering pump. Just unbolt it and push it aside.

How do you change the water pump in a 1992 olds 88

Your local library will have a service manual, check it out or make copies of the pages if it's reference only. This is one of the the easiest water pumps to replace. A good technician can do the job in 20 minutes or so. The basics are:

Remove belt
Remove 4pulley bolts and pulley
remove 4 larger water pump bolts. (coolant will run out of these holes, so, have a drain pan to catch it.)
remove the remaining smaller perimeter bolts
pop pump off engine with screw driver
carefully remove old gasket from engine surface with razor blade, do not gouge the aluminum surface!
install new pump and gasket
use pipe sealant on the 4 longer blots
reinstall belt
add coolant to radiator
test drive/check for leaks

First you must drain the coolant. Remove powersteering pump[keep hoses connected)this is just to make room for water pump removal so just sit it off to he side.Loosen the the water pump pulley mounting bolts, remove the drivebelt, remove the pump pulley. Remove the pump mounting bolts and pul the pump from engine.Install every thing in reverse ,but be sure to clean the mating surface of old sealer and gasket first, also be sure to use RTV gasket sealer on engine side of the new gasket.Be sure not to over/under tighten the bolts the torque specs. are 22 to 29 for the long bolts and 96 to132 for short bolts and 108 to 132 ft lb for the pulley bolts.
