It's easier than a car---meaning that you do not have to drop the fuel tank or empty the tank either.
What you do is remove the front two pick-up box under-carriage bolts and loosen the rear two bolts. (these four bolts hold the rear pick-up box in place)
Then take of the fuel tank fill cowling ---nomaly little shetmetal screws, so it hangs loose from the box. You do not remove the fuel fill hoses or the vent hoses.
Then with the help of another two helpers.Lift the box from the front up at an angle ---leaning back. Have the third guy put some braces(2x4 timber- may have to cut to size) to hold the box up at angle---enough to stick your head in, to get to the top of the fuel tank to undo the pick-up/fuel pump/gauge cover.
Again be very careful about the braces ---make sure they are adequate and safely in place.
Though, if you do not feel this is safe than it's a matter of disconnecting the rear tail light wiring and then completely removing the box--it's not that hard either.
Good Luck..

You have to remove the tank and after you get the tank out there is a port that unbolts or has a twist type lock ring on it. When you take the bolts or lock ring off, the pump will come up out of the tank. Make sure to remove the fuel prior to removeingthe tank. I also recommend that you disconnect the battery or batteries just to be safe.

Where is the fuel pump relay and fuse for the fuel pump on a 2007 dodge ram 3500 diesel 6.7L

This has to be in your main fuse panel. Check your owners manual for the location. The fuel relay itself will be within a foot or two of your gas tank.

I need "step by step" instructions on how to replace the fuel filter on my 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup. Thanks !

Here you go if it is a diesel:
A. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
The fuel filter is located inside of the fuel filter housing
1. Unscrew and remove fuel filter cap at top of fuel filter housing. To unscrew, attach tool to 6-sided hex center of cap. Do not loosen cap at outer edge. The fuel filter cap is designed to remove filter while pulling up on cap.
2. Remove O-ring from cap and discard.
3. The filter is retained to cap with little fingers. Carefully pry a couple of them off from old filter.
B. FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENT:
1. Thoroughly clean inside of filter housing, cap, etc. with clean diesel fuel
2. Fill filter housing (canister) with clean diesel fuel. NOTE: If you do not do this, you will have to manually bleed air out of system later. No fun.
3. Snap new fuel filter to bottom of cap.
4. Install new O-ring
5. Apply lihgt film of clean diesel oil to cap O-ring
6. Load filter/cap into housing.
7. Tighten cap to 25 ft. lbs. torque. Do NOT over-tighten.

those year trucks have bad lift pumps on the diesel engine. it is located near the fuel filter. they are also known for starving the injecter pump for lubrication oil due to the pumps low capacity. it is now recomended that an in the tank pump change over kit be installed

I have a 2000 dodge ram 3500 l6 turbo diesel, just had the fuel pump and injectors replaced, but now no fuel is passing along, and can not hear the pump turn on. replaced the fuel system relay and still...

pump is your only choice at this point...HOWEVER, it does have sufficient fuel in the tank and switched to the supply tank (in case you have dual tanks) right?

04 dodge diesel cuts out while driving at speed

Hi. I had the same problem on my 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins. I went to the dealer and they did a bunch of diagnostics and they replaced my fuel pump. At the same time they put in a retrofit kit that moved the fuel pump to the inside of the gas tank. I have not had the problem since. The cost was about $1,200, but my 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty covered it and I had to pay the $100 deductible.
