Question about Mitsubishi Sigma

1 Answer

1999 Magna station wagon, after rain water present on floor both sides front, in the spare wheel space and back quarter panels. I pulled the plastic covers of under the windscreen, removed the wiper motor assemble and cleaned a lot of leaves and dirt out thinking that the drain holes might have been blocked causing the water to build up and flow into the fan box and run down the vents. Next morning water both sides front. I removed the plugs in the back to let the water drain from the spare wheel space and both rear quarter panels. I have just bought this car. I want to find where the water is getting in. Regards Tony Pryor

Its very hard to remedy leaks such as yours for they are embedded inside the firewall.
you need to remove all matting on the floor and reseal all welded seams on the firewall and floor seams too. More than likely since you purchased this car used it may have been involved in a wreck causing the seams that were sealed to crack and break open.

What is the make of your wagon? Regardless you shouldn't be drilling holes anywhere. Check your rear window seal, tailgate or lift gate seals.

Appears that there is water somewhere in the back portion of the vehicle. When turning a corner can hear water flowing. Have had gas tank full & low, same noises. Could water be trapped in the frame?...

I'm guessing it's a door. There should be drain holes in the bottom to let any water out, but they get plugged up. Open the doors quickly, and while open, yank the door back and forth to see if you hear the water sloshing around. It should be relatively easy to figure which door it is if you can hear it while driving. If you can't find it in the doors, check the lower quarter panels in the cargo area of the vehicle. If the spare is stowed under the floor, pull the panel covering it and check there too. Let me know where you find your lake.

Water leak on fwd and back passenger side after every rain storm

pull your carpet up near the leak area and look for muddy body seams. it is possible one of the factory body seams are leaking- possibly in the cowl(under wipers) area, especially if it leaks when the car is sitting. there will be dirt/mud around the seams that are leaking. also you can check door seals by running the car on HIGH DEFROST with all doors and windows closed. spray around with a 50/50 soapy water solution. obviously bubbles will form around your leak.

I own a 1994 Magna Wagon & water is leaking onto the floor of the driver's side every time it rains. It runs down on the outside of the dash. Can't work out where water is getting in.

Do you run the defrost or heater while its raining. It could be your heater core. It will push moisture and water into your floorboard. It is located against the firewall of most cars. You can bypass the heater core until you replace it by connecting the hoses that lead in and out of it together. Be sure to use O ring clamps to tighten down each hose to the connector. Connector can be purchased at any autoparts store for a few bucks. This is only a temporary fix and you wont have heat until the heater core is replaced.
