Question about Jaguar XJ6

2 Answers

Have an 1981 XJ6 and the drivers window is not working. Disassembled it and putting it back together however motor is not engaging with the window when all seems to be in the right place. Is there a step by step instruction for this somewhere or tip about this job to help? Got two people, one holding window up other doing placement and screws, any tips about process or ways to get motor to engage with window?

Not familiar with that specific car. Most power systems of that era are similar. The drive motor is a worm gera motor which spins a larger gear. When bolted to the window regulator it engages a much larger gear on te end of one of the lift arms. The motor is spinning I assume. The gear in the motor sometimes is a two part gear fuesed into 1 piece with rubber. This can fail. So the worm gear spins but the drive gear does not...under load. It will turn without a load. Inspect the motor and apply a resistance to the gear then energize it.

You might need to adjust the window position so everything will line up correctly again

Rear driver window will not roll up, motor is good. took it apart and the vertical wire is loose what do i need to fix my problem?

your only hope, is RTM

no photos make all that impossible to answer , damage has no limits.
if the the motor gets 12vdc to it, it must work , or its jammed.
if not it the input power feed to the motor, that is failing,.
any voltmeter works here. use a meter to find the truth .

putting something back together that others took apart is one of the
most hardest things to do on earth. (i do it all the time and charge 3x)

2003 s type. drivers wiper works but passengers doesn't any idea's what's wrong and how do i solve the problem

Could be one of 2 things:

1. Linkage that attaches to wiper motor has popped apart and can sometimes be simply clipped back together if not replaced.

2. The arm is not tight on the spindle. Remove cap, tighten nut (normally M6 - 10mm socket) and usually fine.

My power windows won't work. I checked fuses

The relays for the power windows are part of the switch assemblies. 1 relay for up and 1 for down in each switch. I don't think there are any relays for the mirrors, but if there are I think they would also be in the switch panel.

Pull off the door panel and check for power at the window motor and then trace back from there. Most likely cause is broken/loose wiring or connectors.

If you are getting power to the window motor, the gear assembly may be seized, but this is unusual on a drivers door. The gear assembly can be removed from the motor and coaxed back into working order with lots of penetrating oil and a suitable spanner on the cog.

94 jaguar xj6 blowers do not turn on when i turn the ac on i hear a noise in the center console as if the flapper doors are opening and i hear what seems to be the r134a refrigerant is coming out, i have...

its the rocker switch inside the fan control knob. It can be disassembled, and from there you will see what i'm talking about. The switch can actually be disassembled and the contact cleaned, then the control unit can be reassembled. That switch is made of uncoated copper, and the corrosion built enough resistance to stop the fan all together. Another option is to head to radio shack and get that switch, it rins about 4 bucks.
To get to that, check out the posts for removing the skislope panel. It involves removing the center console ashtray and then reaching under the foot of the ski slope and removing those two nuts that retain the ski slope. From there everything else is pretty obvious from looking at how its bolted on. Be careful, youre gonna be turning a lot of screws, and theyre all different sizes, make sure to keep track of what screw goes back where.

Driver side window quick working

Remove the arm rest on the door which has screws in it and then unplug the window switch to the window. Then you pull on the door has plugs on the other side that will snap out and snap back in when putting it back on. You can now look down into the door and see the motor...there will be two or three nuts that need to be removed with a nut you may have to drill a small hole in the door to get to one of them. Once you've done that you can remove the motor...then the fun begins...replacing the motor is just the opposite of removing it...getting the nuts back on is the hard part because it's on the inside of the door, once you've done that everything is a breeze to put back together.

Check the power supply from alternator to battery.
Also there should be fuses located close to battery that supply power to main fuse block.

Power window driver side is stuck on 1986 Cougar

it sounds like there is power there. Window motor/regulator is most probable cause of your strife. I had the same problem luckily it was just a bolt that had shaken loose of the support arm on the regulator i reattached the bolt and it opens and closes well enough
