I have a 2004 with a 2.7 engine. The Oil pressure light comes on and stays on. Do I need a new engine or are their other options to this problem. The car runs great. I am trying to figure out what to fix?ThanksWillie

first off if the oil warning light is on, u need to check the oil pressure with a gauge with the engine at operating temp. and make sure oil pressure is up to spec. a bad switch can cause it to come on also. on the backside of the engine there is an aluminum heat shield covering the switch held on with 3 15mm bolts. after you remove the shield the switch can be removed with a deep socket. dont over tighten the new one when you put it in.
The oil light is supposed to come on when there is low oil pressure, so when the car starts, the pressure goes from 0 to whatever (25-60psi depending on the engine). As a result, the light stays on for a few seconds at the beginning of the start cycle and is then supposed to go out. If the low oil pressure light remains on, then you either have low oil pressure or you have a sensor problem. If you have low oil pressure, you may need a new oil filter. If the filter was just replaced, then you need to get professional help because low oil pressure will wreck your engine in a hurry. Your engine's oil pump may be faulty and need to be replaced.
check oil level [ looks good is not doesnt fly as as not being a possible problem ] may need an oil change --if oil is good -new with new filter will need to have the oil pressure sensor tested and oil pressure tested if sender failing then replacement should fix if low oil pressure then
Maybe your engine is idling too slowly, If the revs are below say 700rpm the low pressure warning light could come on especially when the engine is hot.. If the idle speed is ok try a heavier grade of oil in the engine. Next try a new oil pressure sensor. It's got to be one of these things. Check the engine running temperature . An over-hot engine will cause the oil light to come on too.
Adding engine oil you said no visibleleak.
Your engine has oil consumptionvalvega-ides worn out also when the piston rings worn out oil passes through in to the combustion ch amer. you said when you hit the brake oil light come on that sh owes low oil pressure. You want to resolve the problem and you stop to adding engine oil do your engine ova howling means new piston with piston rings oil pump and engine bearing new valve guide then your engine is new no more oil to add. thanks.
the oil light is coming on due to sensed low engine oil pressure, this is not a level issue unless u are about 3 quarts low, oil pressure indicators don't leave any computer codes, so who ever told u that is wrong, u need to test the oil pressure with a mechanical gage when the oil light is on, until U need to confirm that u don't have a real pressure issue here or you can burn out the engine bearings, if the pressure checks ok then rplace the oil pressure light sending unit in the engine.
I think you have a suspect oil pressure sender unit. Replace it as they are cheap and need to be reliable and it will be cheaper than getting the oil pressure tested. If the light still stays on with the new sender you may have internal wear or a partial blockage. If the light stays on you need to have it urgently checked by a mechanic or you could risk serious engine damage.
