Question about 2000 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

2000 Town car --

I just had the sensor replaced, changed to a heavier oil, replaced the thermostat, and flushed the coolant picked up my car and the oil light comes on after the car warms up when I slow down, Could I have gotten a bad sensor or does this sound like an oil pump? I don't want to keep fixing stuff by their guessing. Took it back to shop for 4th time. They removed sensor and checked oil pressure-- cold it was 70 psi. Hot is 32 psi. Now they say the oil pump is weak and it costs $1051 to replace. Asked why they didn't check before given issues and got excuses. What do you think?

Hot at Idle speed is 32psi? nothing wrong with that. Below 10 psi at hot idle, thats bad, a oil pump isnt going to fix it.

My car overheats even after you drive only 5 kilos. What could be the problem

two liquids regulate temperature i the car - oil and coolant. you need to check both, as you did not bother to think and provide us with manufacturer, model, fuel type and year, only general info can be provided.

oil - check level and change/top up as required, if change required - change oil filter as well while you are at it. change for type of oil required for your vehicle, oil and filters should be changed every 5000km (3500miles) to 10000km (7000miles), this depend on the condition, driving and age of the engine.

coolant - check level, top up f required.

if oil level is correct, and no loss in coolant either, you need to check coolant flow, start investigation if pump belt is not too lose and tension it if required, cannot do that if pump is driven directly from the shaft. check for thermostat problem and change if required, lastly - check radiator flow and reverse flush if required.

if you are flushing radiator - best is to flush block and heating system as well at same time, drain liquid and re-fill with new coolant.

hope this will help you at least a bit - do not forget to vote... :-)

2008 f350 6.4 liter wrench light on reduced engine power on no codes water pump and housing replaced thermostats replaced coolant flushed twice oil coolers free flowing lights are still on any sugesti

Have the codes read. I haven't worked on any thing to date that reduce power because of the coolant system or the oil. I have done some that will kill the engine because of both, but not reduced power. This could be from an engine hard part, sensor or wiring. Most times it's caused from a transmission problem.

If the coolant and thermostat is over 2 year old then it is time to replace thermostat and coolant flush to get all the deposit out.

Flush and fill the coolant reserve tank slowly. I recommend put the car on an oil change ramp to prevent air pocket.

all trouble codes must be cleared from computer, your parts store can do this for your, free. your coolant sensor should have been replaced as well. car is 13 years old. c'mon dude. oil change , good idea. what shape are rad hoses in , they probably need replaced, is your radiator clogged up w/ corrosion ? water pump ok ?

I changed my oil two days ago. the oil light pops up only when i stop or breaking. Why is it doing this?

engine damage
low oil level
incorrect oil
low oil pressure

It could be a bad sensor, but since your going to have to remove the sensor to replace it. Attach a oil pressure gauge to where the sensor would be and see what the true pressure is. Good luck and hope it's the sensor and note that the oil sensor should have been installed without any Teflon tape. The sensor is a tapered fit and Teflon would give it a faults reading, due to bad ground to the engine.

Engine Cooling problem 2003 Dodge Caravan 6

It needs a thermostat and a coolant flush, in the worst case scenario a head gasket may be blown or leaking, have your mechanic do a coolant flush, thermostat, and leak check.

1994 Chevy Silverado temperature guage shows hot

Flushing the radiator, replacing the radiator cap, adding new coolant, replacing the sensors and a new thermostat solved the problem. Probably didn't need to do all of these things - but since we just purchased the truck, and given the fact that is probably hadn't been done in a while, we chose to do all of these things (which really didn't cost a whole lot), it's running like a charm now.
