Question about 2004 Dodge Stratus

2 Answers

2004 Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0 will not idle. It is a hit or miss problem, as I went out and started the car, and then got it into the grarage. Once in the grarage, I turned the car off. When I started it again it would not stay running. It starts and if I give it gas it will stay running.

I have found that it is not a hit or miss problem. It runs correctly when the motor was cool, but as the engine warms up, the car will stall at a stop sign, or red light. Do you think we are still looking at the idle control?

Check engine light is not on. I took the air box off and cleaned the inside of the throttle body and also tapped the idle speed control when the car was off. It is not stalling at stop signs now, but the RPM are very low. I am going to check the plugs and wires to see if I can see anything with these. The throttle body was very dirty inside.

Check the idle speed control selonoid. Sometimes they get carbon on them Tap on it lightly to see if it is stuck. May need to replkace it or clean it .

I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus (4cyl) that idles rough (almost stalls out), dies on start up and recently had a flashing engine light (backfire error). Any suggestions? No other issues, water pump and timing...

Could be the idle air control, once these start hanging up inside, they can cause as variety of problems with idle speed (can become wildly random) or simply a failure to idle at all.

These links should help:
Where is the idle air control valve located on 2004 Dodge Stratus

This could also be caused by a failing ignition pack.

With your Stratus idling, look under the hood. You should be able to find the source of the noise. It could be the belt or something driven by the belt

I have a 2001 dodge stratus se 2.7 liter and it will not start...i recently had problems when i first started it...it would idle up and down which was very wierd and it would cut out once in a while until...

Make sure battery has a full charge. If it cranks good but won't start, check the basics. Have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse.
If your missing everything, I'd check the cam and crank sensor signals. I realize you replaced the crank sensor.
Any applicable trouble codes? I don't know what testing you have done?
With idle issues clean the throttle body and idle air control, see if it helps? Could be other issues?

1996 Dodge Stratus stalls when starting

I had this problem with my 99 Durango and went to AutoBeef.com to discover this was a major problem with 98 & 99 Durangos. The fix was easy -- PCM "brain" was exchanged with a refurbished PCM "brain" from an online PCM company in Florida. You can google as I can't remember name of company. I called them and they said - Yep this is the fix -- the guys told me 3 screws all I had gone to several mechanics and dealers -- none could figure it out. I was so grateful that someone gave me the clue I needed.

My car relves up while driving.

Rather than replace part after part, with hit & miss, run into autozone or pep boys and have it scanned for actual fault codes & replace what is necessary. These places usually do it for free if yoou buy the parts there.
