Remove plug wires one at a time wile vehicle is still running. make sure put it back before you take the next off. you can tell what cylinder is causing the problem if doesn't change. you may new wires or you may need to take compression test.

Take the plugs back out and check them one at a time for oil fouling, also did you replace the plug wires and check the plug gap? are the wires in the proper firing order.

I replaced cap rotar and dist. now it cranks over but will not fire and is back firing

the timing is off a bit! heres how I do it. remove the number 1 plug, stick a straw or similar in plug hole. turn engine over by the crank shaft with a wrench. when piston gets to very top of bore, just before it goes down. this is tdc. remove distributor cap and remove distributor reposition the distributor rotor button facing number 1 plug wire inside cap. replace cap and try it! please let me know if this works for you. good-day ! if you can not get to number 1 plug. just turn the crank to tdc marks are on damper pully or crank. is this a 5.7,

How do I replace the distributor, cap and rotor?

first of all get a piece of paper and draw it out. Label each wire where it go's back in the same place as it is. Then unplug all of them. At the base of the cap there is either two small bolts or screws. Take them out pull straight up on it and it will pop off. then the rotar button has two screws. And there should be grease that comes with rotar button. Make sure follow directions for that. Take em off replace it and cap. Then plug the wires back up. It all only go's one way except the wires.

Engine has a miss . I have already replaced the distributor cap, rotar, spark plugs, and wires.

Check timing and timing belt. Aim a timing light at the crankshaft, and if the mark is jumping around a lot, your chain has jumped a cog. If not that, then you have a stuck valve, or a burnt one. Do a compression test.
