Question about Chevrolet Caprice Classic

Since my water pump went out and was replaced, and after that my heater control valve went out and was replaced my heat stopped working. I replaced my radiator cap, thermostat, and drained and flushed the system?

    Earlier today I noticed my upper radiator hose was very stiff and hot, but after I replaced the thermostat it feels like there is no pressure going through it. I drove the car for like 15 or so minutes and the hose was still loose and a little warm but not hot like it was earlier.

Make sure that the cooling system has been bled out of all the air in the cooling system.And flush the heater core out with a water hose,remove the heater hoses,and use a water hose to flush the heater core out,then bled the cooling system.Check the temp door actuator motor,to see if it is moving,and opening the door for the heater core.

don't know this van specifically, but some things to check, make sure cabin filter is replaced or clean, you didn't say if the blower itself works, if not, correct or replace. Check the hoses going to the heater core, if hot water is flowing thru the core, both hoses should be hot. Check the heater controls to make sure doors in the system are opening closing as they should, you may just be drawing in cold air and not going thru the heater core.

You are correct. That is the common cause of no heat if the water pump and therm are still good. The plastic door is most likely stripped.

1995 jeep cherokee heater problems


Get jeep up to operating temp
Turn on heater to max heat
Hood feel 2 heater core hoses goint into upper passenger side of engine compartment firewall.
They should feel too hot to hold
If it's not hot, could be 6 things
1. heater control valve is bad
2. Vacuum to heater control valve is bad
3. clogged heater core.
4. Bad thermostat
5. Bad waterpump
6. Needs more coolant (check when system is cold)

Do these things:

1. Disconnect vacuum line from control valve and feel under valve to manually move valve to open position. This should let hot water flow through core. If you now have heat inside, replace the heater control valve. Or you can disconnect the plunger on the heater control that is hooked on to the silver bar on the bottom of it. With it disconnected you can manually move it to the open position. It will always remain on.

2. When system is cold, disconnect both heater hoses going to heater core. hook up a water hose to one side of heater core and flush out any gunk. When you get done, the water should run clear. If you see lots of gunk come out, that was probably the problem. Replacement is like $20-30

3. When system is hot and engine running, squeeze the upper radiator hose (using gloves) when you release it you should feel a surge of water. Proves your water pump is working. If no surge, check thermostat. If thermostat checks good, look at the weep holes at the bottom of the water pump for traces of antifreeze. If you see a trace or stream of coolant, indicates bad pump.

4. As far as testing the thermostat, watch as your engine heats up on the gauge. when it gets to a certain point you will see the temperature rise, then lower, then rise again. This means your thermostat opened properly, cooling the system temporarily, then heated it back up. Replacement is around $5

Try these and see how it goes.

heater control valve...check hoses going into heater core..both must be hot if heater control valve is good ..check flapper valve that closes off ac from heat..this is a door inside the duct work....thermostat replaced and radiator cap too.let me know just fixed my own

No heat in my dakota. flushed heater core and replaced therm with a reg one.


check for poor flow to heater core-change heater hoses -check for lime build up at intake connector or worn out water pump -if you only put water through core try using CLRlime cleaner in core-get two 6in pieces or heater hose hook them to core and pour it in and leave for 15 mins then wash out with water hose

No heat, heater core is good,blower moter works


Check the operation of the heater control valve. If it doesn't open up no heat. If the cable moves the control on the valve take the valve off and check it manually. The lever may work but the valve still doesn't open.

Heat won't blow when idle.


hmmm tricky, at a long shot it could be the heater control switch in the engine bay, u should be able to see this working if you get someone to sit in the cab and move the temp switch from cool to heat over and over. if this is working ok try bleeding or flushing your heater pipes. considering your getting heat when your moving but not at idle im leaning more to the bleed side of it, you could have an airlock. this would be overcome when the engine is at higher revs therefore pumping a higher volume of water and also at a faster rate through you heater lines temporarily fixing it
