Normally if your seals start leaking it is a sign that your bearings have wear and are in need of replacing. Otherwise i would say if you get a whinning or a grinding noise when engaged you may have an issue with it or improper installation. IE the gears are too close together. Less then 10 thousandth's of an inch play (.0010) Symptoms would sure help us on here be able to give you correct info and advice!

How do gears to drive pto go in the manual transmission

If your transmission is PTO ready, there will be a plate on the side of the tans where the PTO bolts to it. The PTO will have a gear that goes into the transmission that is driven off of a gear on the input shaft. You will be able to engage and disengage the PTO by a slip gear in the PTO itself.

Will a pto pump off a 89 ford zf5 trans work on a 94 dodge nv4500.

a pto pump is an after market unit and is designed to fit any gear box
the problem s you will be experiencing is the adapter plate used to get the correct gear mesh for the pto gear and the counter shaft gear and if the pitch of the pump is the same as the counter shaft gear( may have to change the pto gear )
before you do the conversion , talk with a shop that fits pto units to discuss any likely problems and they will have access to anything needed to be successful in the fittment

Odd experience: engine powered down going up hill, then almost stalled. PTO will not engage, now engine will not start or even turn over.

I had a similar experience and I had to replace the PTO.
What size motor do you have and what brand is it?

I have a 98 F800/5.9 cummins. Pumper truck w/bationi pump. Pto leaking. How do I know what to order.please. help

you are not specific about where the pto is leaking. If it hoses to the pump then replace the hoses and fittings. If it leaking between the pump and the gear box then you will need 2 gaskets. There is a gasket that goes between the adaptor plate and the box opening and another between the pump and the adaptor plate. Use good quality gasket goo( silastic blue ). Ensure that and mounting bolts that go through into the oil section of the box are sealed around the threads or have good copper washers under the heads. If the installation was done correctly initially then it is possible that le leakage is from loose bolts

We had several, identical gearbox failures on several Merceds Benz 1823 trucks. Each time the PTO pump was ripped off and the bell housing destroyed whilst the vehicle was driven on a straight road. We...

There is a gear that is in constant mesh in the PTO with a gear in the cluster shaft of the gear box. Fitting a PTO is a critical operation as there are shims between the PTO flange and the gear box housing to ensure correct teeth clearance . IF this clearance is not enough then the gears bottom out and jam prevention proper lubrication and rotation. Also it is vital that the teeth pitch of the PTO gear matches the pitch of the gear box gear as this will cause the PTO to be pushed of the side of the box.

Thee is a mechanical tightening mechanism that goes over the rod that connects your shift lever to the PTO lever. It is secured with a bolt. If this bolt has come loose, the mechanism may have moved (slipped on the shaft) and the shift lever will not be synchronized with the PTO lever. There may be evidence this slippage on the rod. If so move it back to its original position and tighten. If not adjust in the direction you suspect it moved from in small increments until it works again. May need to reverse direction, of course, if it gets worse. Let me know if this helps. Thanks.
