Question about Jaguar X-Type

2 Answers

I have a 2005 Jaguar X-Type. I need to remove the driver side headlight assembly. I presume it needs to come off toward the front of the car. It doesn't look like it comes off into the engine compartment. I recently changed out the headlight (low beam) bulb. I need to replace it because of condensation in both lights. Is it a matter of taking off the plastic bumber cover all the way?? If so, is it a relatively simple process? Just a matter of locating all the bolts? Thank you.

OK...I saw those and removed 1 when I changed the low beam bulb. So once those are off, I will be able to see what needs to come off to be able to remove the entire assembly? I'm sure I'll have to remove the battery again since it was nearly impossible just to replace the bulb without removing it. Thanks

It's clear the front bumper cover needs to come off the remove the entire driver side headlight assembly. It CANNOT be removed from inside the engine compartment. So beside the 4 visible bolts that hold the cover on near the headlights, where else does one look for how to remove the bumper cover?

  • Jerome Casper Feb 07, 2010

I can only get the bumper cover off enough to pull it about 8 inches from the top of the headlight assembly....not enough to even see, much less get to, the 2 bolts holding the assembly in place. So, I will have to remove the bumper cover more. How to do it? I see NO bolts holding the cover on. (except the 4 that are easily removed at the top). Thanks for your help.

Remove the front bumper cover and the headlamp assembly retaining bolts should be 2 of them on the bottom. Then remove the headlamp assembly. If it has washers then remove the washer hose by removing the retainer then remove the headlamp assembly. If you can get away with removing the bumper cover completely then just remove it enough to gain access to the headlamp assembly.Hope this helps.Good luck.Let me know if you need more help.

The "book" will tell you to pull the entire assembly and lower front bumper cover, but you can do it from the engine compartment easily. There are two soft rubber covers on the back of each light assembly that have a bar clip that slides off and releases them. Remover the rubber cover to expose the lamps.

How too remoove driver side fender 2005 envoy

once you have removed the headlight assembly and remove the bolt behind the headlight assembly, continue locating the 10mm bolts attaching the fender along the top side, along the bottom in front and behind of the tire, open the drivers side front door, look into the opening between the door hinges and with a flashlight and a long extension on your ratchet you will then remove the two bolts between the fender and door, one on top and one at the bottom. you also have to remove the retaining bolts that attach the inner fender liner to the fender.

How do you replace the front turn signal on a 2005 Buick Terraza?

Changing front, right turn signal on 2005 Buick Terraza: Open hood; when facing the front of vehicle, the right turn signal is on the passenger side (left). The headlight assembly needs to be removed to easily reach the turn signal. On my vehicle, there is a 10 mm screw on the left side. Remove it. There is L-shaped pin on the right side of the headlight assembly. Swing the pin counter-clockwise (to the left). Pull the pin straight up to remove. The headlight assembly is now loose, but there is a pin snapped in a socket on the back of the assembly that still holds the assembly. Pull the headlight assembly hard and straight to the front of the vehicle. When it snaps loose, the assembly is now held just by the rubber gasket surrounding the assembly. You need to gently work the right side of the gasket out of the grill cowling. The assembly should pull straight out. The wires are long enough to lay the headlight assembly in the engine compartment. Finally, the turn signal is now accessible. Twist the light holder counter-clockwise and pull out the light holder. Change the bulb. Do not punch your man-card for credit until you have successfully reinstalled the headlight assembly. It goes back in a little easier the second time. Once you have put the L-pin in place, the screw back, and successfully tested the lights, you can now punch your man-card.

I give the mechanical engineers and designers a D-minus instead of an F only because I was successful on the first try. No light bulb on anything commonly used by people should be this hard to figure out.

Cobalt 2005 ls headlight bulb replacement

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb
  • Wrench
  • Gloves or clean rag
  1. Step 1 Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition to ensure your Chevy Cobalt won't roll while you're replacing the headlight bulb.
  2. Step 2 Open the hood by pulling the hood release latch located under the instrument panel on the driver's side of the car. Locate the secondary release latch on the front of the hood at the center, slightly towards the driver's side. Slide the latch to the left to release the hood and raise it.
  3. Step 3 Locate the headlight assembly and remove the bolts by turning them counterclockwise. Set the bolts aside in a safe place, so you won't misplace them.
  4. Step 4 Remove the plastic fasteners from the headlight assembly molding. Carefully pull back the front fascia, or molding. You may need an extra pair of hands to perform this slightly awkward task.
  5. Step 5 Grab the headlight assembly and pull it towards the radiator at a slight angle to remove it. This should provide easier access to the headlight bulb and wiring harness.
  6. Step 6 Lift the plastic locking tab on the wiring harness to disconnect the bulb base. Then, disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb socket and remove the black retainer by turning it counterclockwise.
  7. Step 7 Disconnect the bulb socket by turning it counterclockwise. Remove the old bulb from the socket by firmly, but gently pulling it straight out.
  8. Step 8 Replace the old bulb with a new 9007 LL halogen headlight bulb. Put your headlight assembly back together by reversing the steps when you disassembled it. Use 89 inch-lb torque when retightening the headlight assembly

How to change the headlight bulb on the passenger side of 2005 equinox

Step 1 - Raise the hood and remove the 4 push-in retainers that go along the top of the front grille. These are each two part retainers - remove both parts by prying with a small screwdriver. Nothing comes off here - this just makes the grille loose for maneuvering the headlight assembly around to get it in and out.
Step 2 - Remove the "bow tie" trim piece that runs from headlight to headlight thru the middle of the front grille - it is cheap plastic so do this carefully (mine looks like chrome with the Chevy 'bow tie' in the center). To do this, use a flat-bladed screwdriver and a rag (to protect the headlight). This trim part comes off - I started at the driver's side and work toward the passenger side. Place the rag below the trim on the headlight. Carefully pry up on the trim piece with the screwdriver and work the trim with your fingers until it pops out of the headlight assembly catch. There are lock tabs on both the top and bottom of this trim piece when you get to the grille area. Work your way down the trim piece by prying wherever you locate a tab and protecting with the rag as you go until the "bow tie" trim piece comes off. The headlight assembly catches are the tightest. Set it off to the side so you don't step on it or scratch it.
Step 3 - Unbolt the light assembly. There are two hex-headed screws on top and one 10MM down inside (towards the center of the car). Remove these 3 bolts.
Step 4 - Remove the assembly - There are 2 guide tabs in the lower outside part of the light assembly (opposite the 10MM screw). Wiggle the assembly while pulling out (forward). When the tabs clear, lift up on the headlight and it should be easy to work the rest of the way out to gain access to the headlamp.

Step 5 - remove and replace the bulb - it is halogen so you DO NOT touch it with your fingers because the finger oil will cause a hot spot and the bulb will burn out fast. Handle the new bulb with a clean cloth - a clean sock works well.

Replace driver side lowbeam headlight on a Honda 2005 Civic EX

  1. 1 Locate and remove the power steering reservoir from behind the driver's side headlight assembly. Pull straight upward, sliding it off its mount and set aside for access to the headlight bulb. Make sure you keep it upright so it does not spill.
  2. Step 2 Locate and remove the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. Depress the locking tab to release it and pull the connector down, removing it from the bulb.
  3. Step 3 Turn the bulb counterclockwise ¼-turn then pull the bulb straight out of the headlight assembly. Insert a new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn it ¼-turn clockwise to lock it in place.
  4. Step 4 Install the electrical connector by plugging it into the bottom of the bulb. Push the connector in until the locking tab engages the bulb, securing it to the bulb.
  5. Step 5 Slide the power steering pump reservoir onto its mount.
