The Warning Light Comes on "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" what does this mean

car needs oil pressure or bearings will wear out in short time. Do not drive or start engine with this light on. Might only be pressure sending unit. Can replace sending unit and start briefly to see if problem resolves. If light still stays on, shut off engine and have oil pump replaced.

2000 Volkswagen passat oil pressure light coming on and the dipstick shows there is enough oil?

Your oil pump or sending unit is most likely bad. If you have sufficient oil supply, and there is a slight grinding noise or ticking of that sort, then you aren't getting any oil to circulate through your engine.

Oil pressure light comes on.message says stop engine now.what are possible solutions.engine has 151,000 miles.i change oil every 3000 to 4000 miles

HI.There are only two possible issue here that will cause this to occur. The first issue will be a failing, or damaged oil pressure switch(sending unit). The sending unit is responsible for transmitting the correct information to the instrument that displays the pressure readings. If there is a wiring issue, or the sending unit has failed, this will cause the oil light to illuminate. In this case, the sending unit must be replaced. Ok, the next issue will be a failed oil pump. This will be the most common issue, in this case, due to the actual mileage on this particular vehicle. A oil pump can fail mechanically(gear failure). This device is not repairable, and must be replaced. The easiest way to isolate the issue, will be to preform a pressure test on the engine. There is a special tool, used by your mechanic, that will allow you, or him, to extract the true pressure readings for the engine, during idle. If the pressure test confirms that the oil pressure is low, or weak, this will lead to a failed oil pump. Now, if the pressure test indicates that the engine is running at optimal pressure range, this will indicate that the oil pressure switch(sending unit), is faulty. It must be replaced.

Oil pressure loss

the 1st thing u do is have the oil pressure tested with a test mechanical gauge by a shop, most times it is just the oil pressure sending unit is defective, but never assume that is the problem, low oil pressure will distroy a $5000.00 engine very quickly, u can just try a new sending unit, but highly recommend a pressure test with a mechanical gauge before you run the engine anymore.

Not enough oil pressure to run turbo keeps burning it out 99 passat 1.8

Oil pressure at idle should be 2 bar and at 2000 rpm 3 - 4.5 bar. Verify the engine oil pressure.

The 1.8t engines have problems with sludge because of the turbo scorching the oil. If engine oil pressure is good you may want to clean or replace the oil supply and return lines and the turbo.

The pressure sending unit is located on the passenger side rear of the engine just above and slightly to the left of the filter and filter housing.
