Disconnect the battery for 30seconds to a minute then reconnect.Keep in mind you will have to reset the radio stations and clock.

Hi, you can keep driving and the light should go away on it's own within probably 20 or so starts. I would go that route.

There are other options as well - http://www.obd-codes.com/faq/reset_obd_codes.php

Give it a few days. It will shut off itself if the problem is not seen again.

You would have to have a code reader to do this, auto zone can do this for you for free, but most of the time ,it will go off on it`s own,but it will do it on it`s own time,if the problem is gone, and if that is why the light was on.

I guess you have no knowledge about vehicles
made for the last 35 years, since 1980

We have computers that monitor things & operate
the vehicles

You surely have heard of checking for OBD Codes

You have an Evap System problem to find & fix &
it does not have to be a failed gas cap

Ever read your owners manual, their not of much use,
but you have to get all that down first

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt and I have read several posts that sound like the problem I am having. My car runs fine then the engine will start surging--the RPM guage will swing wildly from 500-2000 while...

i have an 06 cobalt with the same issue and when my engine light finally came on it showed up as evap system malfunctioning. This is for the emissions system. My code shown was P0440. This can be caused by a faulty or loose gas cap, a purge valve, a vent valve, or the evap canister. I am waiting on the purge valve to arrive now so should know if that takes car of mine in a week, but i have already replaced my gas cap and the problem is still there. Hope this helps you some

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with the check engine light on. Code P0442 evap emission control system leak (small). Is there a common problem with this and what should i look for

Did you get gas shortly before the light came on? It's not uncommon for a loose gas cap to set this code. Take the cap off and look at the seal. If it's cracked replace it with a new OEM cap. If not, reinstall it and make sure it's on all the way. Then you can clear the code and see if it comes back.

Engine light came on on 06 chevy cobalt erased with scanner but there is again and again

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BECAUSE THE CAR RUNS A SYSTEM CHECK AND SOMETHING IS FAILING. UNTIL YOU ADDRESS THE PROBLEM IT WILL KEEP COMING BACK ON( HINT) REPLACE THE GAS CAP IT IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE

FUEL CAP LIGHT ON

Hi:
The check fuel cap light is tripped when your cap has been loose or off, and the engine is running. Often you need to have the light reset by a code scanner. If you have checked the cap and it is secure, if you reset the code and it comes back, you possibly need a new gas cap.

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

2005 Chevy Cobalt, how do you reset a fault code?

Your car has a OBD2 hook up under the dash somewhere on the drivers side, You have to have a computer to hook up to that ODB plug and reset it, If you live near a Autozone they will clear the code for you for free, One other thing you try is disconnecting your battery for about 30 mins, that works on alot cars to reset the check light.

was your gas cap tight? sounds like you had an evap leak code. If you got gas with car running it can set this code or if you left cap loose
