Check engine light came on. The car isnt acting up or anything so we took it to midas and they said it was the gas cap so we replaced the gas cap and they took off the check engine light.Hors later it came back on so we changed the spark plugs. if this doesnt work aaaaagh. what can we do? oh yeah we also replaced the oxygen sensor.

next time go to autozone and have code (s) read. another way to clear the code (poor man's way) is to disconnect your battery. the oxysensor wire may not have been secure ..........what codes did you get?

Why my Check Engine/Service/Check Engines Soon light comes on? The engine computer or PCM/ECM All modern vehicles have a computer or the ECM (Electronic Control Module) that controls the operation of the vehicle powertrain (the engine and transmission). The main purpose of this is to keep the engine running at top efficiency with the lowest possible emissions. With constantly growing demands for better fuel economy and new strictest emission regulations it's not very easy to achieve. The engine parameters need to be constantly and precisely adjusted according to various conditions such as speed, load, engine temperature, gasoline quality, ambient air temperature, road conditions, etc. That's why today's cars have much more electronics than in early days - there is a large number of various sensors and other electronic devices that help the vehicle computer or ECM to precisely control the engine and transmission operation and monitor emissions. The vehicle computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and your car needs to be looked at. To properly diagnose what is wrong, you need to take your car to a mechanic or a dealer. The technician at the dealership or a garage will then hook up the scanner to the car computer and retrieve the stored trouble code(s). Then he (she) will look it up in the service manual provided by a car manufacturer. The service manual contains the list of possible codes (about few hundreds) and describes what each code means and what needs to be tested. The code itself doesn't tell exactly what component is defective - it only indicates where to look, what engine parameter is out of normal range. The technician will have to perform further testing to pinpoint a defective part.

Find out if Midas use a genuine sensor or an after market unit. A cpu is set to read the parameters of a genuine unit and after market units while they work have the parameters set so that the cpu sees them as faulty and will put the engine light on.. Suggest you take it to a dealer for a correct fault reading and diognosis of the problem.

2004 chevy impala getting horrible gas mileage

1. With the engine running and the fuel pump fully pressurising the system have you checked all the fuel lines for external leaks?

2. Have you replaced the mass air flow sensor?

3. Have you replaced the engine cold air intake air filter unit?

2. Have you had a diagnostic tool on the car to see what codes it is throwing up?

Why check engine light come on mostly after refuiling after a long drive ?

Because your vehicle is a 2008 I feel it shouldn't be anything to pressing but still take some precautions.

What alot of people don't know is sometimes if the gas cap is not put on tight enough a little air might get in or your gas pump might have to work a little harder because it can't get full vacuum pressure with the cap slightly open. these are not major issues.

these are reasons why your check engine light comes on. It happened to my 2005 Buick Rendezvou We had the check engine light on for a week. The car never shuttered, stalled, delayed starts it ran perfectly fine. I took it in to check engine light their computer showed that it was the EVAP system which is the heating and cooling system I would have to get it checked for leaks or do a static check for leaks.

This didn't look good but then one day I had done some work for a friend told him of my problem he told me it could be my gas cap. The next day I asked my wife if the gas cap was working on vehicle it actually was broke I replaced gas cap and the check engine light came off.

Now with this story (which is true) don't assume every problem could be this. But if you are not noticing any stalls, delayed starts, shuttering anything out of the ordinary check the cap at times to make sure it is closed.

If you keep on having light on and replaced cap or made sure was securely on then take and get it checked out.

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

Check Engine Light came on after getting gas.

Get the computer scanned to start. If your cap was loose, and the check engine light did come on for that, your vehicle would still run fine. You may have bad gas, but that is an assumption unless you take a sample of it.
So, my advise, get it scanned to see why the light has gone on.

Fuel/gas cap

have you replaced the gas cap? most of the time when a check engine light is on for the gas cap, its because the cap isnt venting the fumes properly or the cap isnt on tight enough.
