I would like to know how to change the headlight in a 96 mazda protege without having to take it to a mechanic

This is usually a very simple repair under the hood behind the light fixture there will be a twist out plug depending on the model of the protege you may have to remove the battery and some other smaller brackets to gain access

change any belt on any car at 60k/6years,that is, if you do not want any VERY LARGE BILLS.

The belt shold be checked at 60,000 don't let it go past 100,000 Without replacing you you will be buying a new engine.

No brake lights


Sounds like it is your brake light switch which is located on the brake pedal itself.  Should cost around $20 at autozone and is pretty easy to change out yourself.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Replacing 2 belts on a 2000 Mazda Protege


I recommend that you go to any Auto Parts store and by a repair user manual for your 2000 Mazda Protege.  They have pictures and arrows and stuff that you will need to do the whole job.  The non-Mazda version will cost approximately $15.00.
Because of the tensioner that may come off when while you are doing these belt changes, it is too complicated to talk you through this.
But with the manual, I am confident you can change them.
