If yours is a push button 4WD system then your problem is most likely in the transffer case shifting motor..they go bad all the time and will need to be replaced.

I have a 2004 envoy xl the service four wheel drive light came on today and i noticed the indicator light from the dial that switches from 2wd to 4wd the light doesnt work for all four settings. what can...

Check fuse #48 in the rear fuse panel first. If fuse is good, you may have a bad selector switch or the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) has gone bad. A technician with a high end scan tool can diagnose the system.

Fords I find are touchy that way. Clean the connections on your switch & on your transfer case first. Make sure the switch works properly. Try switching it in neutral & also in park. My truck sometimes switches in one & not in the other. Never switch it while driving...

It feels like the four wheel drive kicks in but the front wheeels dont spin

there is a electrical switch for your transfer case is actually engaging then the front axle might not be locking in check ur hubbs... note u get into 4 low and front tires not turning then it would most likely be the lock outs

4 Wheel drive not functional

There is a TSB on this problem: TSB #03-04-21-001C

Subject:4WD Switch Indicator Lights Flashing, 4WD Inoperative, DTCs C0327, P0500, P0836, P1875 Set (Replace Encoder Motor Sensor, Reprogram TCCM, Inspect Front Drive Axle Engagement Sleeve for Damage/Repair) #03-04-21-001D - (12/04/2003)

Models:2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL
with 4WD and Electric Shift or Active Transfer Case (RPO NP1 or NP8)
You can also try removing the TREC fuse (engine fuse box) and reinstall after 30 seconds. Look up the TSB number I gave you and you'll find alot more information.

4 wheel drive doesnt work

When you switch it to four wheeel drive does it sound as if the transfer case is doing what it supposed to do? (makes shifting noise) If so its probably the front differental actuator not locking in the front wheels. the part # is 12471631 through GM and costs $131.53, or through Schucks/O'Reily part # is 600103 and costs $85.99.

Jack up the car from both front and back and when you start you should see all the four moving ,if its does then it a four wheel drive and only 2 wheels rotate the its in normal drive..........
