Thanks, wish I had known that. As it is the belt broke at 112K miles, doing significant damage to the heads. Should I repair the damage or let the car go?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. I hope you know that all Kia engines that use timing belts must be replaced at 60,000 miles. The timing belts they use have no leeway. Kia belts will pop between 61k and 65k. You should get it replaced now to avoid any further issues.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

It may not be much of a risk, for a while, but the risk keeps getting greater
all the time. So it is always recommended to replace it. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

My serpentine belt broke and went under my timing belt and i think the timing is off how do i get it back to the proper timing

First, you forgot to mention which engine your vehicle is equipped with (2.4L or 3.0L .... the 3.3L and 3.8L engines are chain-driven). This is really "nice-to-know" information if you want accurate information on how to fix it. Then, I have a little trouble believing that the serpentine belt could go under the timing belt unless there is some severe damage to the timing belt covers.

Do the valves have clearance if timing belt breaks, or are the valves bent?

Hi,
some cars had the 'free wheel" feature if the cam belt broke, thus saving the valves. I do not think that your vehicle had the feature. However, if you gave more info0, ie, is the car running or not, then there might be an easy way to check the head out.

Hyundai sonata changed my timing belt and engine would not start?

Why did you change the belt? Did the belt break first? If the belt broke the engine may have bent valves in the cylinder head. If you were just changing it because it was time you may have gotten the crankshaft to camshaft timing off or out of time. Does the engine sound normal when you spin it over with the starter? If it sounds faster than normal it probably has bent valves. Tommy

My 1998 toyota canry timing belt broke. Is this an interferance motor? Did It destroy the engine?

no you most likely bent valves on inlet side, pull the head and check for any other damage it all really depends on the rpm when the belt broke. ( rate me thanks )

Timing chain broke in back of engine on passenger side

Replacement of the timing belts is a critical maintenance item on most all VW's. Usually start watching the performance begining at about 70,000 miles. Dealer cost for the service is typically in the $600-750 range. Other parts should also be replaced once the timing belt is exposed. A timing belt failure can result in severe damafge to the engine, and can kill most engines when it occurs. Engine replacement is an expensive repair.

Timing belt belt broke honda accord 93. First we cant get the bottom pulleys nut off and how do u knw if i hurt my engine?

You are either going to have to use an air impact wrench, or firgure out a way to keep the crankshaft from turning. When you say you can't get the nut off I'm assuming it's because you can't keep the crank from turning. Maybe wrap a nylon strap around the pulley and figure out a way to anchor the strap or use a block of wood make a wedge. To tell if you hurt the engine you are going to have to put a timing belt on the engine, then get a compression gauge and check the compression. If you have close to the same amount of compression in each cylinder I would think the engine is OK. You should have about 160 PSI of compression on that car, I would think, and not more than 25 PSI variation from one cylinder to the next.
