My 3 liter engine turns over but will not start. If I take the battery out will I lose any information stored by the onboard computer?

No,but why remove the battery? You will need to have power to start your troubleshooting and testing to find the no start issues. Any loss of RAM memory will be relearned when you start driving again.

Time a 4.0 liter ford v6

The timing is auto set by the onboard computer which is recieves the information from the oxygen sensors. I dont have enough information to make a diagnosis. You need to post the symptoms, and anything the engine does while running. You can take it to a parts store and they will use a code reader to get the codes from the computer. They will do this for free. I hope this was helpful. Good Luck.

Does the DPFE cause the battery do die or make hard to start the vehicle?

No. The DPFE gets its power only after the ignition key is in the ON position. It should not make it hard to start either because the part measures the exhaust gas flow and the engine has none until it runs.

Your problems can be divided into 2 groups. Those that will show a Code and are monitored by the onboard computer and those that are not. Beyond that, a better scanner is needed to question the engine controls and bypass the onboard computer.

Have your battery checked and the Diodes in the Alternator checked. The autoparts stores like Autozone, Oreilys, and Advance will test the charging system free.

2003 Dodge Neon - won't start. check engine light stays on after you turn the key to the run position - flashes after you try to start the engine.

Go to a larger auto parts store and ask the counterperson to use the store's OBD II code scanner to read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) stored in your car's onboard computer. Then, the counterperson should be able to interpret the code and advise you as to the parts and general procedures to replace the problem parts. Good luck.

1995 f250 7.5 liter engine shuts down

Under what condition(s) does the engine shut down? Idling? Driving (at what speed(s) and/or RPM level? Did the Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light come on? If, so, there is a code stored in the truck's onboard computer that can be read and interpreted by going to any larger auto parts store and asking to borrow (for use at that store) their code scanner. Most good counterpeople will offer to connect the scanner and read/interpret the code (they want to sell parts, right). With that information you can ask what is involved in resolving the malfunction, and decide is ou want to attempt it yourself or take the truck to a professional. That being said, if no light came on (which usually means no code being set), there are other possible causes, but we need more details in order to diagnose the problem.

90 civic dies itermittently

There are many things that can cause an engine to die. The first thing you need to do is to find out what went away that caused it to die. Did it lose spark? did it lose fuel? Did the idle air control shut down and cut off the air flow? Is it losing electrical power? If so, which circuits are being affected? Are there any fault codes stored in the onboard engine computer?

...lots of variables here. Need lots more information to pinpoint the cause.

Check engine light came on yesterday. Car seemed to be running fine. Got home parked it and now it won't start. It is turning over, but not starting.

The check engine light can come on for literally HUNDREDS of reasons. The reason that your check engine light came on may or may not be related to your car not starting. It could be just coincidence or it could also be that the light was trying to warn you about a system failure that is now keeping you from starting your car.
The only thing that is fairly certain is that the computer will have set a fault code in memory to tell you why it turned the light on. Whatever you do, don't keep trying to start it . Quit until you can get the computer system scanned.
Many times I have had cars towed in because of similar problems. The problem was made worse because the customer kept trying to start the engine until the battery went completely dead. The problem with this is that you can lose the codes that will tell you what is going on. The computer literally "loses its mind" when the battery is run too low. With no codes to narrow things down, the problem has to be manually diagnosed. EVERYTHING will have to be checked to eliminate possibilities. This can take a LOT of time and can be VERY expensive.

Is the check engine light on? If so, scanning the onboard computer system would be a good place to start. Otherwise, I would check for restricted intake or exhaust. (possible clogged air filter, damaged exhaust pipe, or catalytic converter)

Very hard to start in the morning.Has new battery, plugs and plugwires and engine turns over good but it takes 8-12 trys before it starts. After it does start if you touch the gas peddle it dies. After it...

Fuel injected? My 87 Porsche and 89 Alpha Romeo have Bosch fuel injection system (the best). They both have a cold start injector driven by the onboard computer. Computers hardly ever fail. But the sensor that tells the computer that the engine is cold can fail or the cold start injector can fail or be dirty. Please go to your autoparts store and get a repair manual, best $ 25 you will ever spend. Good Luck!

How to check engine codes 98 ford f-150

Easiest way is to go to Autozone or Oreillys and get a free scan. Your onboard computer will store problems for 20 to 30 starts, then lose them.
