The pump shaft most likely has sheared off. Be sure to replace the pump with a NEW GM PUMP. do not use some reman or rebuilt pump.

I have a 2009 Buick Lacrosse. After a year of driving with no issues, it has a very loud whining noise every time I crank it and never stops until I turn off engine. Does it in drive and park and at all...

The most common source of the whine is the power steering pump is low on fluid or the pump is defective. Check the owner's manual for instructions on how to check the fluid in the pumps reservoir.

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

Loud roaring from front right side goes away during a left curve then comes back when you straghten up

This is caused by a bad wheel bearing. to locate the right wheel jack the front wheels up and check for the wheel being loose, or with car jacked up in the air with front wheel off the ground put it in drive and see if you can listen for the noise, you may be right with the right front but just double check, good luck, hope this is helpful.

No power steering

Hi: Check to Make sure your power Steering belt is on still. Also check the Power Steering fluid level is in your power steering canister. If its Low Fill it Up then Start your Jeep moving steering wheel back and Forth,Look to see if you have Power Steering Fluid Leaking Anywhere.Last thing i can think of is your power steering filter is plugged up.Not Very Common. So If All the Above Fails. I'd Say your Power Steering Pump Stopped Working. Hope This Has Helped you. Please let me Know how Much my Solutions Helped.Thank You. From ==d_hubbs

When driven about 10 miles, makes a noise similar to a power steering pump going out, but only when it heats up, power steering fluid is full. Why would it only make the noise when engine is hot?

The Power Steering Pump has a Fluid Cooler, a small radiator located on the bottom of the Van. It is used to cool the power steering fluid off. If there is a blockage problem this will cause overheating.
Although there is fluid, when was the fluid last changed? Then was the last time this entire System was flushed?
However, the Power Steering Pump making noise only when heated is a definite beginning sign that Power Steering Pump Bearings are failing. When these fail, they do so without too much warning, meaning Noise and then failure immediately after!
Before you run out and buy a new Power Steerin Pump, make sure it is in fact the Pump and not the nearby Pulley's or Pump's. Some people rush to judgement and change out the Pump when the nearby pulley bearing was the real culprit.

What would cause the power steering and the power brakes to fail on a chevy avalanch

Check power steering fluid level.
Power steering pump provides hydraulic assistance to you brakes.
if the level is low, add fluid and check if there is a leak somewhere.
If the level is OK, suspect a bad power steering pump.
Hope it will help

Red this article:

Eventhough the level is right, the fluid might need replacing (every 3~5 years and 50.000-100.000 miles).

You can read how to recognize bad/old fluid here: http://www.hondaclub.com/forum/articles/1492-power-steering-fluid-lifeline-your-steering-system.html

Loud noise in the steering column;gear box replacd recently

Dealer, but did you check the Power steering fluid level??or any leaks. There are two hose that connect to the gear box from the power steering pump. if the pump is low on fluid you lose your power steering, if the hose has a leak or it blew and lost the power steering fluid then you lost your power steering again.
Check the fluid level to the power steering pump and any leaks or broken hose to the gear box.
Keep me posted, be glad to help and good luck.
