Question about 2005 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My 05 Ka had smoke coming from the bonnet AA man came out and filled with water. Have checked water again this morning and it has gone down, think there is a leak as water on the ground. Am taking it to garage on Monday, couldnt do it today, for testing. What should they be doing and whats a reasonable cost for this? Also any ideas of what is leaking, have read loads, possible headgasket. lm worried that the garage will rip me off as lm a woman who knows next to nothing about cars. Can someone help?

Being a women has nothing to do with being ripped off. Men don't know anything about todays veh either. You don't authorize any work requiring any payment at all, until your standing inside the repair facility, after they come up with a problem and explain it to your satisfaction. I mean inside the service bay next to your car, not in the office. You talk only to the tech/mech that is assigned to your repair. Then go to the office to discuss price, and other issues. You do not pay upon completion until you repeat the process after repair are done. Back into the shop, open hood, examine new parts installed etc and are shown old parts and explained why they failed. Try to find a shop with ASE Certified Mechanics and never leave a vehicle if they do not want to go on a road test with you driving and then they drive. Your loss of coolant is one of few exceptions. I would say a radiator hose or bad/leaking radiator are common failures. A radiator is not more than $200 in most cases and a couple hours labor at $60 per hr

What could the problem be....?

It could be a fluke (won't happen again) but if it happens again then you should address the problem of pre-fireing or back fireing,
excess fuel ETC.

My jag is losing coolant

When your exhaust is starting to give white smoke and the coolant is running out faster and faster, visit a repair shop, because it could be you head gasket is slowly blown away. Don't let it run till it is out complete, because the repairs will be more expensive.

Renault Megane 1.6 will not start

get the AA man (dolt ) back and have your friend watch what he does
not smart not to tell a customer what the fix is as it saves having to come back and do it again or show what has to be fixed to prevent a recurrence
probably just moved a loose battery terminal to make good contact again

Those pesky little bypass hoses in the cooling system tend to go hard and split if they are over 5 years old, allowing coolant loss which could cause your problem. Have them checked as well as making sure any other hoses and clamps are in good condition.

Would guess there is a high liklihood that you splashed some water off of the road onto a hot engine, hot exhaust, etc. Keep an eye on it for a day or two, but if you don't see the steam on a dry day, and your coolant level is stable, relax.
