I drive a 2005 Nissan Altima. It hasn't given me any problems until about a couple of weeks ago. There's a delayed start.Thought it may have been because it was cold out but even on warmer days, it does it. I have to hold the key down for a few seconds before it starts up but it used to start up immediately. What could be the problem?

When I'm driving on the highway the car would lose all power to the gas pedal. The car engine would still run while this occurs. I would pull over on the shoulder and cut off the car about 1-2 minutes and restart it. The problem would occur about 3 times per day. I bought some fuel system cleaner about a week ago and change my fuel intake from discount gas stations to Shell. Also when I fill up I put gas treatment in the fuel take along with V-Power gas. Ever since I started doing this the car never cut off. I know this didn't fix the problem because the check engine light is still on, but is this helping one of the above problems so I could narrow this down to which one to repa
Hi there, your problem could have been caused by many reasons. The bumps might have little to do with it. I would advise you to take your car to the garage and have a car repairman look at it. As it is a car, you have to take this step early to avoid spending more on its repair.
It is possible that you have some timing chain noise, especially if you have the 3.5L engine. The secondary timing chain tensioners on the 3.5 have a known problem, Nissan has issued a service bulletin regarding this and there is an updated part to replace them. It is not a cheap job, but your dealer may give you some "goodwill" depending on your mileage. If you have the 2.5L the problem may a couple of other things...even more serious! They had catalytic converters that came apart and got ingested into the engine, eventually destroying it. Try googling "Altima rattle" and include your engine size in the search. There is a ton of info on the net about noises in these cars.
yes get a new battery,,the old one probably, cant hold a charge,,then have you alt ck out to see if it is charging,,the car will run on the battery,,until no juice is left,,alternator recharges the battery,,

I have the same problem in my car. I too have a 2005 Nissan Altima. Mine seems to only happen when I go on long trips. (about an hour/hour and a half) When this happens, my sevice engine soon light will come on and if I turn off my car, I have to give it gas to turn back on. It seems after it has had a chance to cool off it is back to normal again and in a couple of days the engine light goes off. There was a recall in '07 about the crankshaft that states:
IF THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE CONDITION, THE ENGINE MAY STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AT A LOW SPEED INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
That may be looking into. I am going to do that in the next couple of weeks and ask them their opinion on why my car does what it is. I have looked and thought also it may be my feul pump. I will try to keep you posted.
How many miles? Last tune up?
