1997 ford taurus 3.0 ltr trans wont shift into overdrive. first thrugh third gears shift fine but it doesnt try to shift into overdrive at all. the trans shows no signs of slipping and the fluid looks good. I have even tried replacing the shift position modual on the top of the trans and it had no affect. what else might I try?

Solenoid pack in trans. Position module,is just that. Wrong guess. What tran model do you have? You also have other sensors to consider but have to know the trans your working on and the computer and shift stratagy involved to solve this, even if your throwing parts at it.

Just bought a 1997 Ford taurus The transmission once hot (up to temp) loses overdrive an drive 1st an reverse are strong , What could the issue be with it a module, Filter, Lines ???

If you put in 6 quarts of trans fluid the trans and tourque converter must have been bone dry.
By the way trans temp and engine are usually the same or close.
The heat is from friction, the friction is from the clutches slipping.
You need a new trans,

Why won't a 2005 Taurus with a fax transmission shift into 3rd gear?

run the fault codes and check for a servo/solenoid fault or a faulty TCM module.

I have a 1998 ford f-150 4.6 liter and it slips in overdrive but when overdrive is turned off doesnt slip but only shifts up one gear first to second what is wrong

It sounds like you have lost overdrive and it is slipping in third. Being a 1998, likely with a lot of miles the trans has probably burnt the direct clutches. If the ATF has a burnt smell then it's time for an overhaul.

96 ford tuarus that has AX4N transmission wont shift out of first gear, how many shift solenoids are in this transmission and how hard are they to change

You may want to change the vehicle speed sensor first. Is your speedometer working? The shift solenoids are inside the side cover of the transmission and it's quite a job to get that cover off, you practically have to take the trans out of the car. Are you getting a "check engine" light there may be a code in the computer that will tell you what is going on. If one of those solenoids fail it should trigger a "check engine" light, the solenoids are usually pretty trouble free as a rule. I'm not sure on that transmission, but I think there are two shift solenoids, but there is also a "torque converter clutch solenoid". Also, if you can get it to a trany shop they can put a scan tool on your car and tell you exactly what's happening. Have you tried manually shifting the car? Pull it down into 1 then manually shift it up, see if it will shift that way.

MY TRANS WONT SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR UNTIL IM DOING 45 MPH IT SHIFTS FINE IN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR WHEN IT IS IN SECOND GEAR AND WONT SHIFT TO THIRD I CAN PUT IT IN N AND BACK TO OVERDRIVE THEN IT SHIFTS.

Most likely your shift cable (from the selector to the transmission) is worn, maybe needs lubrication. Mine had a similiar problem, but had to shift it into neutral and back up to get it in reverse. A new shift cable solved the problem.

I have a 96 Ford Taurus GL (V6 3.0), with a trasmission problem.

try a trans fluss if that dosnt work then your bands on the trans or going bad. or if could be your computer is going bad but most likly you just have some junk in your fluid.
