Question about 2004 Jaguar XJR-Series
The brake lights work okay so I know this can`t be the fault. I can get it out of park by unscrewing the plug by gear shift lever and pressing in with key. As long as I dont put it into park the car drives forever no probs. I wondered what is the cause and does it entail an expensive Bill to put right.

SOURCE: JAGUAR XJ8 GEARBOX ADJUSTMENT
There is an adjustment on the selector lever on the side of the gearbox (lhs) make this longer to give the gear lever more travel. There is also an adjustment on the gearbox selector sensor for the electronics system.

I had this exact same problem and the cable was broken. There is a way to get it open by going through the wheel well. Let me know if this is still an issue for you and I can walk you through it. Thanks!
