White smoke-like stuff comes out of heater vent of my car.

I had the heater on while driving and suddenly I smelled a strange odor and then white smoke-like stuff came billowing out of the heater vent.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Sharp acidic smell would be electrical
sweet smell would be coolant.

If it smells like antifreeze then your heater core has ruptured/is leaking. if it smells electrical then i would say your blower moter.

I agree on the coolant being the most likely culprit. You might also check for pack rat debris in the ducts. This is a realtively common problem in Arizona. the debris builds up and eventually they get it into the motor or blower area. It may smell like burning leaves or burning garbage. White or black smoke may come out of the vents.

White smoke from air vents while ac was on,greasy film on window while defrost is on/heater coil?

Yes. The heater core is leaking bad. The white smoke is the coolant and steam. Be sure to add water to the radiator before you burn up the engine.

The most common reason is leaking coolant, either in the engine compartment or in the heater box.

Check for loss of coolant also. If you can see/smell oily deposits on windshield, it's unlikely it's from the a/c system as there is relatively little lubricant there. More likely your heater core is leaking and allowing coolant to be blown up onto the windshield. There will also be a distinctive odor with this.

1999 ford expendition has smoke coming out of the vent

If it is a kind of sweet smell then your heater core needs to be replaced. It's leaking and you should keep an eye on your coolant level until you get it fixed. The smoke is coolant. Hope this helps.
