Check your oil level. You could have a leaking gasket or you could have way to much oil in the crankcase. Remember add the right amount of oil and not too much because as it gets hot oil thins out and expands and it puts a lot of presure on the gaskets and seals.

Check your oil level, You may have over filled it on your last oil change. Even if you did not over fill, it sounds to me like your valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals are worn. Inside your oil crank case where the spark plugs go, there are seals that block the oil from entering the where the plugs are. At first it doesnt cause your plugs to foul but it does get messy. Over time the oil would foul out you spark plugs. If I were you I would get the Valve Cover Gasket along with the spark plug tube seals, which are usually sold as a set together. Good Luck!

P0300 code changed spark plugs p0302

Cylinder 2 is misfiring. Spark plug could be faulty or spark plug wire could have broke internally if you didn't replace them at the same time. Swap cylinder 1 and 2s spark plugs clear code and drive again. If Same code comes back plug is good look at wire if code p0301 come up the spark plug is no good

I have a 2000 4 cyl. Mercury Mystique. I recently changed the spark plugs and noticed that on the old ones there was oil all over it except for the electrode. I was wondering if that is normal or if I...

If the oil only covered the "outside" of the spark plug, it is likely the valve cover seals to which will be carried by most autoparts stores. Replace by using a black silicone to hold the seal in the cover(just a couple of dots here and there to hold it in will do) and this should cure the issue for at least another 60,000 miles. If you need instructons, please feel free to let me know.

I need to know the timing sequence for a 1998 Mercury Mystique 2 liter

ignition timing or valve timing?

ignition timing not setable.

info:
The ignition system consists of an ignition coil, spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The crankshaft position sensor signal is the basis for ignition timing calculations. The alternating voltage signal from the crankshaft position sensor is digitized by the powertrain control module. This digitized signal is then used to position the closing time of the primary circuit of the ignition coil.
Ignition angle is determined by the powertrain control module in response to engine operating conditions. Once ignition angle has been determined, the powertrain control module interrupts the current to the primary circuit of the ignition coil thus triggering the ignition spark which is supplied to the cylinders through the spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The ignition coils are triggered by the powertrain control module in pairs (cylinders 1 and 4 and cylinders 3 and 2) sending one ignition spark to the firing cylinder and one ignition spark to the corresponding cylinder on the exhaust stroke. This make sures that any unburnt fuel residues remaining in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke are re - ignited to provide cleaner exhaust emissions.

Wont start

will what have you checked for dose it have spark , dose it have fuel? if it will not start with starting fuild i would say that you have no spark . go to one of the plug wires remove it from the spark plug install a spark checker you can buy one at any parts store . crank mtr do you have spark. if not check another one that way you can rule out the coil pack still no spark may have a bad crank sensor . at this time i would take it in to a repair shop so they can test that item . unless you want to replace it and take a risk that it may not solve your problem good luck kdc744
