Most likely the module that goes inside of your distributor is bad.i had the same thing happen to me on my astro van i owned a few years ago.i would drive it for a while then shut it off.it would not start until it completely cooled down, then it would start back up right away.i replaced the module inside the distributor( which cost me about 45 dollars at the time)and the van never had that problem again.it would start up every time no matter how many times i turned it on or off.hope this info helps you.take care and good luck, manny

I live in NY and cold and I have a 1999 F150 pickup 4x4 with Triton V8 engine. Truck has only 64,000 mi on it. I only drive the truck only a few miles a week but do start it up every other day. Recently...

The problem may be simple. Since you only drive it a few miles a week the engine never gets to full operating tempature long enough to keep the spark plugs and the cylinders clean. You should drive the truck at least 10 to 15 miles a week at one time to keep the carbon from building up in the cylinders.
The 1st thing I would try is just replace all 8 spark plugs and take it for a drive and see how she runs. If this corrects the problem then I would get in the habit of either taking a 10 to 15 mile drive at leat once a week or change the spark plugs every other month.

Over heating engine, can drive for 1 mile without damage?

Any engine, when cold, takes at least 3 miles before reaching operating temperature.. After reaching operating temp it still takes a mile or 8(depending on your vehicle) before "over" temperatures are reached. Therefore if needed, a vehicle can be driven several miles without any coolant/water at all before overheating and causing damage, if started from from cold.

Car runs and drives but 10-15 miles it dies and wont run until cools off

Dear Sir,
As you said your car stop after 10-15 miles run.and start working after 10 to 15 min wait.
It can occur due a part or unit which defer working according to temperature. it means it stop working when it got hot and start working when it get cold. this type of parts are motors which have winding unit inside it, which can stop working in high temperature, it will not happen if they are good working condition but if that is got short then it can happen.
In your case cause is the fuel pump which is in fuel tank,Till it is cold it supply the fuel to engine but after few miles run it stop sending fuel to engine ,after wait for 10 to 15 it again start sending fuel to engine when it get cold.
Fuel pump will solve your problem. if any issue please let me know. Thanks.

5.7 Hemi won't start in cold weather.

Cold weather makes the engine hard to start for two main reasons. First, oil thickens when it's cold, which increases friction and makes it harder for the starter motor to spin the engine. Cold also slows the chemical reaction in the car's battery, reducing its power output. Battery output is usually rated at 77°F, below which starting power drops drastically.

You can ensure that your car will start in the worst weather by keeping the engine or the battery, or both, warm.

You may want to consider a trickle charger for the battery to keep the chemical reaction working and an engine block heater to make it easier for the pistons to move freely.

It sounds like the pickup coil in the distributor, when it gets hot, it goes open circuit. Changing the plugs won,t help

Engine knock

The idle issue is normal. The idle is controlled by the ECU. There are no adjustments for the idle. Regarding the knocking noise, that could be several things, and I am hesitant to comment without hearing it. Take it to a Toyota Dealer & have a tech listen to it. We are very good at identifying noises on the service drive.

You probably need to replace the fuel pump.
