Question about 1999 Lincoln Town Car

1999 lincoln town car no start

1999 lincoln town car 4.6L, good spark, good fuel pressure, good B+ to each fuel injector but no ground from pcm at any injector. Main pcm ground seems clean/tight. Does the theft system prohibit injector ground if a fault is present? Can I replace the pcm with a known good unit with the same part number from a salvage vehicle? Any common problems with the town cars? Thanks.

Ok theft is working properly then, thanks. i must have a pcm issue or a ground issue then.

  • wino_pgh_gmc Feb 26, 2010

I have no ground at ANY injector. I have spark at ALL coils. So since I have spark, I am ruling out timing, cam and crank sensors. The PCM controls injector ground so if there is a theft issue, you are saying that I will have no spark or fuel? both? No fuel pressure? No injector pulse from PCM?

im using a noid light. Tried 2 just to be sure.

  • wino_pgh_gmc Feb 26, 2010

Yeah i've heard that PCM,s rarely go bad so that why I posted this. No codes either. Thanks.

Yes the teft light will stop the vehicle from running. that is the pats system and can cause all sorts of trouble. if the light flashes fast its not reading the key. no start. if it turns on for two seconds and shuts off the it should start

In 15 yrs as a master tech I have ever only seen one bad pcm. People always want to jump to that first. That said. If you have spark it is not the theft system making the car not run. If this were the case you would get a no fuel/no spark condition. What about the timing signals, crank, and cam sensors? you can check them with a voltmeter set to AC voltage. The 4.6 is well known for bad individual spark plug coil packs also. Check each cylinder for spark not just one.

You are right about the timing signals and spark. Sorry Brain Fart. How are you measuring ground at the injectors. The injectors fire so fast you need noid lights or an o-scope to see it. You cannot possibly measure it with a voltmeter not even an analog one.

O.k. just had to be sure. I guess I will finally have to go with a pcm problem then, sounds like your diagnosis tree is sound and you have looked at everything. Any codes?

1999 lincon town car no power to fuel injector

Sometimes a crankshaft sensor does not send the signal to fire either the spark or the fuel injectors. If the fuel pump relay is not getting power, the inertia sensor will not have power either. The inertia reset is just magnetic and does not depend on having power to reset.

You can check for current at the Inertia sensor and at the fuel pump relay. You can also have fuel pressure at the test port without the injectors working, which is the easiest test of all,

You need the sequential firing pulse for the injectors. Have you checked the EEC Relay?

2004 ford explorer will not start but turns over

For a no start , cranks over ok. be sure you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail first, before checking the injectors. There should be more that 40 psi at the rail... if not .. you might have a fuel pump problem. Even if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail... the next thing I would check for,,, is spark !! Make sure you have spark at the spark plugs. The order would be... fuel pressure first and then spark , , then injector pulse. !! Then plugged exhaust.... then bad fuel then engine timing. The injectors have power to them all the time. The PCM controls the ground to the injectors. So you would have to monitor the ground side of the injectors. So checking injectors is kinda complicated. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

You need to do several things

Is the battery in good shape & have over 12.5 volts
Do you have fuel pressure at the motor key on engine off
Do you have spark or injector pulse when cranking

Are the plugs getting fuel ? Are they wet ?
Will it try to start if you spray starting fluid into the throttle body ?
Does it sound like it has compression ?
Have you checked spark at all of the plugs ?

Van started to run rough, then shut off. Will not start. Replaced fuel pump and crankshaft sensor. Tested coil spark - good. Tested plug wire spark - good. What is next?

You need to know if you have fuel pressure at the injectors and if the injectors are opening. I would check for voltage at the injectors and a ground signal from the PCM after checking for fuel pressure.

I have a 2001 Explorer Sport Trak and it don't want to start. We have checked all the sensors (crankshaft, cam trigger, fuel pump pressre is 65). What is the tank fuel pressure sensor voltage reading. ...

The first thing to check would be spark. This can be done by connecting a spark plug tester to a plug wire while the engine is cranking. The tester must be grounded to the engine block for a good electrical connection.. Your fuel pump pressure is OK.
The problem should be electrical so check
1. No voltage to the fuel injectors (blown injector fuse or bad relay)
2. No pulse signal to the injectors from the PCM (no crank or cam sensor input to the PCM, or a bad driver circuit in the PCM, or a wiring harness problem)
3. A shorted fuel injector (robs voltage from the other injectors so none will operate)

Will not start. Fuel pressure is 60lbs.

JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE FUEL PRESSURE DOES,NT MEAN THE INJECTOR IS FIRING YOU COULD HAVE 100LBS PRESS. BUT IF PCM DOES NOT COMMAND INJECTOR TO FIRE IT WANT MATTER I SUGGEST HAVING NOID LIGHT INSTALLED @ INJECTOR CONNECTOR TO SEE
