It is typically screwed into a cooling passage of the intake manifold or the thermostat housing. It looks like this:

Hi Leopoldo

You need to post this in the original post by clicking COMMENT under the person you are replying to. Or if you are just supplying more information, you can click Comment under you own post. Doing it this way won't work as Fixya gets 7 million posts a year, so the chances of the person seeing it as slim to nonexistent.

Need to know where the coolant temperature sensor is located on a 2002 Lincoln ls 3.9 V8 engine any help would be highly appreciated

The coolant temperature is read off of the (CHT) cylinder head temperature sensor. It is located on the inside on the passenger side (right) cylinder head and is connected to the harness through Ford connector C107. The Ford basic part# is 6G004. It's connected by WH/VT and BR/WH wires to pins 40 and 17 of the vehicles PCM (computer). Keep in mind that if the coolant level is low, if there is air in the system, or if there is a wiring concern, you could have concerns with this sensors reading. Good luck.

Location: Coolant Temp Sensor 2001 Lincoln LS V6

It is on the Driver side of engine in between the COP's (Coil on plugs) simply unplug the wire use a 19 or 3/4 deep well socket and unscrew it and put it new one... The whole process should only take 10-15 minutes.
