Question about 2000 Pontiac Bonneville

Car is shaking

My 2000 pontiac bonneville ssei started shaking, especially when accelerating. I had a tune up, replacing the spark plugs and one bad wire. still kept shaking. the diagnostic test then said two of the 6 cylinders were not receiving power. they want to replace the fuel injectors to see if that helps, but are not guaranteeing it's the problem. should i have them replaced at the estimated cost of $599? thank you!

Hello,

Is the place you are taking it to a proper garage one would hope they would not rip anyone off... it does sound strange that it was both of those at once causing the issue, have a talk to them see if they can be cleaned, you can get a process now called ultra-sonic injector cleaning and once this is done they can test them on a flow bench you should only have to replace them if they are worn out or damaged,

If in doubt go get a second opinion from another garage as to clean all 6 injectors and fully check over the fuel system it should cost $599 max

Hope this helps

Kind regards
Brad

I havve a 95 bonneville.. 3.8 under acceleration the engine shakes. there is a slight loss of power. but when the rpms are up to say1800 the shake stops. it also shakes when passing. what causes this?

It sounds like you may have one coil pack dropping out. If you mark and remove all of the plug wires at the coils, then have an assistant crank the engine briefly, the coil that has no spark, or poor spark between the towers would be the culprit. Switch it around with another coil. (usually the hold down bolts are 5.5 mm) If the problem follows the coil, it's a bad coil. I f the problem remains in the same position, you have a bad transistor in the mudule and the module will need to be replaced. Good luck, and contact me if this is not the problem, or if you need frthur assistance.

How long has it been since a tune up? I'd suggest plugs, wires, etc. (don't forget air and fuel filters while you're at it.)

Mine did this at one time, and it was only a bad plug wire. Give it a tune up and see if it works. 170k miles is awesome, I have 145k now and it runs great, but had to have ac replaced this week :( Good Luck!!

Pontiac Bonneville(2000) oil pressure sending unit

The oil pressure sending unit is located behind the oil filter, Threaded into an aluminunm housing. It has wiring that plugs into the sending unit. The oil filter has to be removed and you will need a deep well socket and a 6 inch extension. Change the oil and the sending unit together.
