98 chevy malibu codes

Could the cracked insulaters be the problem ( small pieces missing) to the sparkplugs, 2 are cracked for code P-0300. And is P-0420 the cat. or could it be related to missfire problem?

Yes your right on target and the Cat code is definetly due to the misfire.

Chevy malibu 2001 code po300

P0300 is multiple cylinder misfire, meaning a engine miss is detected on more then 1 cylinder, I would have the codes scanned at auto part store to know for sure which cylinders are actually missing, if there are 2 cylinders that are missing and they are side by side, such as cyl. 1,3. Or 3,5. If so its possible u have a blown head gasket blowing in between the 2 cylinders.. 1st double check that your wires are installed correctly, the coil packs have numbers on them to assure proper location.. Note the rear head has cylinder 1 3 and 5. Some people get that confused.. Providing you have a 3.3, 3.8 or 3.1 liter engine.

My 2000 chevy malibu is reading p0302 p0241 and p0442

PO302 misfire # 2 cyclinder, PO241,boost pressure circuit low, PO442 evap has small leak, The misfire is the code you need to verify first, if you want to fix it yourself your best bet is to replace the sparkplug and inspect the soil boot for and burn through marks(whitish)then take the #2 COP and swap it with another COP and see if the misfire moves if the misfire moves replace the COP,as for the PO442 tighten or replace the gas cap

Will a 3.1 liter engine out of a 94 pontiac grand prix fit into a 98 chevy malibu, and what is the significance of vin code "m"?

I looked it up and it shows that these engine have diff. sensors to comunicate with computer and possible exhaust and intake are diff.,
check it out, 94 has OBDI the 98 has OBDII
I put the engines next to each other and compair,
94 engines are all by it's self.
98-99 engines are interchangeable
Good luck

My daughter has a 98 chevy malibu, with the 2.4 4 cyl. Check engine ligth is on, 2 codes P-0300 and P0420. for the p-0300 i noticed when i changed the plugs the plastic insulater where cracked and small...

Both codes have to do with misfire. The 1st one directly dealing with the misfire cylinder, and the other has to do with bank 1 at the catalyst which is most likely been caused by the fuel not being burned and the 02 sensor is getting polluted. Fix the misfire and the other should go away in time; however, you might need to unplug the negative on the battery for about 20 minutes to clear the codes. This may need to be done a couple of times until the sensor clears.
