It means that you need to research either a different car, or a different engine for this car. A loud knocking noise indicates a connecting rod is loose, and your engine has little to no time left before the rod or endcap breaks, completely messing up your engine, and making it very difficult to change. If you must drive it, drive it slow, and be super gentle with the gas...like you're driving on ice. If it's more of a ticking noise, that could be a lifter, but a loud hollow sounding knock is a rod. You may also have a check engine light showing up on the dash from the knock sensor.

Sounds like your transmission. It could be your u joints in your drive shaft. However, if its coming from the front , it is probably your transmission going bad. Check your front end out also.

97dakota 3.9 have a bad knock, pulled a injector off guit knocking, is injector bad

Is it an engine knock if it is an engine knock and killing the cylinder by removing spark or fuel makes it go away then your injector is in fact working. The reason the noise quiets down its because you've eliminated that which would cause a load or pressure in that cylinder. This means you have some worn internal engine parts.

I hv a '01 Aurora w/ 105000miles. On choppy pavement, the rear tends to skip sideways w/assoc knocking noises like worn or loose struts. Left rear tire on outside shows more wear than the other three....

This is related to the "link assy" parts on the rear end. They are about 30" long. One end bolts near the center of the car. The other ends have a tie-rod type end and mount to the rear wheel assembly.
The knocking noises are because the link assy are bad. About $70.00 each for these. I would also check the upper shock mounts on the rear. These go bad and will cause noise as well. About $15.00/ea. Easy to replace.
The skip sideways is because the link assy or rear alignment is off. This is easily fixed and should be done as soon as the parts are replaced.

Loud knocking coming from the bottom end and now loss of power sludge build up i have changed oil normal every 2500-3000 miles with synthetic and slick fifty.

the engine probably has a bad bearing in it.oil sludge can be caused by short trip driving, overheating, pluged crank case vent or pcv system not working.the power loss due to the computer retarding ignition timeing due to the knock sensor producing a signal from the engine knock.regardless an ongine ocerhaul or replacement is neede.
but first make sure that the bell housing bolts, torque converter bolts are all tight.
make sure the knock isnt from the catalytic converter
check for dents in the oil pan
check engine accessorys for noise such as water pump.power steering pump,alternator,a/c compressor.and all attachment bolts

these 3.3l engines are equipped with timing chains. if vehicle has prolonged down time, typically more than 4 hours, vehicle makes a chatter until the timing chain tensioners put tension on the chain. you will need them replaced.
