I have a 1991 GMC Jimmy. When I lock it into 4 low or 4 high it doesn't want to work. Also for about 2 or 3 weeks after I take it out and put it back into 2 wheel drive there is a really loud screeching...

There is a vaccum line running down to the front differential check and make sure there is no vaccum while in two wheel drive. If there is then the 4wheel drive is still engaged and you may have to replace the tcc motor

96 explorer disengages 4wh low but does not engage 2wheel

Does it shift to 4wd high range ? If so then shift to 2wd . What is going on here is the transfer case motor is stopping due to the motor position sensor has gone bad which means that you replace the transfer case motor assembly. But if you wish to make it a 2wd for awhile then remove motor and manually turn shaft . This can be done by raising and supporting rear axle truck in park remove motor turn shaft slowly with pliers and rotating the play in drive shaft. There are stamped markings on back of case showing gear positions..

Stuck in 4wheel drive how can I get it back to 2 wheel?

Try tapping the encoder motor with a hammer while a helper pushes the 2 high button. The encoder motor is the part on the transfer case that switches through the different drive options.

4 wheel drive will not engage (1995 S10 Blazer)

I had this same problem a few years ago. In my case I didn't use the 4 Wheel Drive very often and the tranfer would hang in 2 Wheel. I fixed mine by tapping on the transfer case with a hammer while my wife switched back and forth from 2 Wheel to 4 Wheel.

Suspension Vibrates while driving every 3-4 minutes VERY LOUDLY

I had a 1999 Expedition with a similar problem. They had a recall on a 4 Wheel drive switch that would change by itself. On the models with air suspension it was worse because the 4Wheel drive setting would automatically raise the vehicle. My Expedition had an automatic setting and then electric lockin settings to stay in 4 wheel drive. They were skipping all over. The dealer knew about it and replaced the switch. It fixed it. But there were also some bad front hubs that growled.

How to shift into 4wd

Ford has 2 types of 4x4 system engagement. One is a knob on the dash that you just turn to 4wheel drive high or low. The other system is the 4x4 transfer case shift on the transmission tunnel (hump) between the driver and passenger seats. To shift into 4 wheel drive high while driving, just let off the gas and shift transfer case into 4H position, and continue driving. To shift into 4 wheel drive Low, stop the vehicle completely, put transmission in neutral, shift transfer case into 4Low position, put trans. in gear, and start driving. I am assuming before doing the above, you have locked in ( turned the front hubs to 4 wheel drive position.) Any further questions, let me know.

1993 4X4 BLASER 4WHEEL DRIVE

Your blazer is equipped with a shift on the fly four wheel drive. That means that at speeds less than fifteen miles per hour you can shift into or out of four wheel drive by simply pushing the four wheel high button. If you wish to shift into four wheel low. Stop, put the transmission into park or neutral, and push the four wheel low button. Same procedure for shifting back out. Never shift into or out of four wheel low while moving. And be careful in four wheel low. At full throttle your still barely moving, you don't want to blow your engine up!
