CHECK ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT TENSION IF BELT LOOK LOOSE ADJUST DRIVE BELT TENSION.IF YOU HAVE AUTOMATIC BELT TENSIONER CHECK FOR FOR BROKEN BELT TENSIONER. IF DRIVE BELT LOOK OKAY.CHECK ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUT PUT AT BATTERY WHILE ENGINE IDLING.BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS. IF NOT ALTERNATOR FAULTY.FIRST CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND CHECK ALTERNATOR POWER FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES FOR DAMAGE OR LOOSE CONNECTIONS. FIRST TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO KEEP FROM LOCKING OUT RADIO.
When you replaced the altenator did the belt tensioner move freely, did it have a lot of torque, did it go back by itself? If it doesn't keep enough tension this will cause the light to come on. Not spinning the altenator fast enough. Some times this will cause the belt to squeal, some times not.
The batter could be the fault, should be a 065 size thats UK size, although it may be a loose altenator belt or a bust altenator, it could be on its way out, when you get a new battery fitted ask them to test the chrge coming back from the battery if it is still low then the battery is not the fault.
yes the alternator can whne it could be a tell tell sign of the bearings going bad or it could be a bad belt if the volts are still good id just keep an eye on it but be prepared to replace it it could lock up with out any warning.
Hi the altenator belt? if it keeps snapping then your altenator is rather starting to seize up or its not fitted correctly, normally if its squeking its to loose.
Spin the altenator by hand and see what it sounds like, if its hard to turn or noisey that the fault.
sounds like the belt is loose. if it has a tensioner check and or replace it, if not tighten the belt. or the alternator tests ok but is actually not working at low rpm. or the battery is shorted. electricity is tricky
the problem is not the altenator. you should have a idler pully and a self adjusting idler tensioner. if thes e go bad the bearings tend to seize up and break belts i would check these first chance you get the tensioner should be spring like and be hard to move back and forth the pulley part of it should spin freely with out makeing a noise. please rate this
It's actually super easy.
All you need is your year and make alternator belt and a wrench.
Take off the existing altenator, take off the old belt.
Once the altenator is off you'll be able to look further down below where the altenator was. You'll see a metal wheel that's a little bigger than the one on the altenator. This is where the new belt needs to wrap around.
I found it alot easier to wrap the belts around the two wheels before putting the altenator back on the engine.
Make sure that all bolts and seals are sound. (that's the last thing you need falling off in the middle of nowhere!)
Hope it helped!
belt keeps coming off ,already replaced everthing, added guards, nothing works, any sugestions?
