Buy a Haynes Manual for your truck. It is made by taking a vehicle completely apart then putting it back together. It will show you details on how to fix your engine. Available at most Auto stores and online. A great investment. I have them for all of my vehicles.

Think i have a bad lifter in my 2000 buick lasabre,it was riding fine then all of a sudden its making a ticking sound on top! how difficult is it to replace the lifters?

Quite a bit of work--this is a pushrod engine. You need to remove the fuel rail and both upper and lower intake manifolds. Then both valve covers. Loosen the rockers until you can slip them off the pushrods. Pull the pushrod off the lifter to replace it. You may have to rotate the crankshaft a bit to get all the lifters up to where you can pull each one out. I can send more detailed instructions including torque values if you decide to do it.

How do i ajust my lifters on a chevy 350 tbi

they are hydralic and are not adjustable during normal maintenence
if you removed heads then you need to adjust them
if they are clicking then a lifter may be bad or the cam shaft is going flat

Need instructions on how to change the lifters in my 1998 Chevy S10 2.2L

Please don't forget to rate!!!!

2.2L Engine When installing new lifters, a pre-lube should always be applied to the lifter body. It is also a good idea to prime hydraulic lifters by submerging them in clean engine oil and depressing the plunger using an old pushrod. This allows the internal components of the hydraulic lifter to coat with oil before initial operation in the engine. All lifters should be replaced when a new camshaft is installed.
If any valve train components (lifters, pushrods, rocker arms) are to be reused, they must be tagged or arranged during removal to assure installation in their original locations.
  1. Remove the rocker arm cover.
  2. Remove the cylinder head assembly from the engine.
  3. Remove the bolts retaining the lifter anti-rotation brackets, then remove the brackets.
  4. Remove the hydraulic roller lifters from the bores.
  5. Inspect the lifter and lifter bore for wear and scuffing. Examine the roller for freedom of movement and/or flat spots on the roller surface.

To install:
If installing a new lifter, coat the lifter body with a suitable camshaft pre-lube
  1. Install each hydraulic lifter to its bore being careful to align the flat sides (top) of the lifters with the flat sides of the anti-rotation brackets. When properly installed the flat sides of each lifter are aligned parallel to the anti-rotation bracket. The roller at the bottom of the lifter is parallel to the camshaft lobe.
Make sure to properly align and install each lifter as improper installation of the lifters or brackets could result in engine damage.
  1. Install the anti-rotation bracket retaining bolts and tighten to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  2. Install the cylinder head.
  3. Install the rocker arm cover.

How do you tell good lifter from bad lifters in 97 Chevy Vortec 350

Most of the vortecs that i have worked on have hydraulic roller lifters, but i cant say for certain that your engine does, however i am sure that it has hydraulic lifters and they can be checked by trying to push them down in the center where the pushrods contact, if they compress easily the lifter is bad, If they are roller lifters, check for any wear on the roller and how well they turn, it is ok to have some side to side movement on the pin but any up/down movement on the roller is bad. If the are non-roller lifters check for wear, if the lifter looks "dished" or "concaved" rather than having flat surface replace the lifter.

2000 chevy malibu there is a tapping sound when i

Most likely its just your lifters clapping as they make contact, until the oil starts flowing good through them, then it goes away. My car has been doing that for a long time. Never had any problems. The rods are pushed up by the camshaft, the rods push down rocker arms which then open the valves. The rods are round at the tips and sit in lifters that pump oil through them up to the top of the engine and then out onto the valve springs. If your car has a lot of miles you may consider putting a thicker oil, something like 10w40.

64 Chevy pickup, rebuild engine, tapping noise in

Remove the valve cover and rotate the engine and check to see if all the valves are opening the same amount. If not, you have either a bad lifter, bent pushrod, or cam going flat. Check your valve lash with the valves closed. You should be at 0 lash at all of the rocker arms.

Could be a number of things, but if it just sounds like a heavy lifter tick I have a bunch of chevys that do the same thing including a 2009 sierra. Gm delaler says its normal for these engines to do this because of carbon build up. Not the answer I wanted to hear about a brand new truck, but Ive got the same answer from other dealer techs on other gm cars as well. If it does not sound like a lifter it could be one of the bearings in a pulley starting to go bad.
