1. drain coolant
2. remove engine cover
3. remove the 2 bolts from water hose connection (upper rad hose connecting to)
4. remove o-ring and thermostat
5. If plastic crossover/thermostat housing like original intake manifold, then inspect for cracks if plastic is cracked you need new improved intake with metal crossover/thermostat housing,Dorman 615-178 $200 - $ 270, $700 from dealer plus 700 labor.if not cracked proceed.
6. insert new t-stat spring end down into housing, put on new "O" Ring seal, (NOT Flat seal that may come with t-stat)
7. tighten bolts 12 -to-18 ft/lb torque only or you risk cracking plastic housing making for an expensive intake manifold replacement because a cracked housing WILL LEAK.
8. if you have old style plastic crossover tube/t-stat housing they all will start to leak around 100,000 - 140,000 miles in several places not just at t-stat. there is a extended warrarty to 7 years they all leak at 8- 14 years or mileage above. the leak will be small at first a little odor of burnt coolant and loss of coolant are the clues they will leak at the rear left side at heater hose connection, only cure replace intake manifold. good luck do google search for more info.

I have a 1998 1/2 Lincoln Town Car. Yes, some of the parts were changed over that year, as to why I am saying 98 1/2 At any rate, the car is overheating. I have changed the thermostat and radiator cap,...

maybe your cooling fan isnot working, electric under the hood.

Can you hear it come on when ou turn a/c on? It should also come on when engine coolant temp sensor gets hot enough to tell the computer to turn it on.

So, check fan motor operation ECT Sensor operation, & a/c making cooling fan run too.

I need to change spark plugs. What do I need to fix it with or what to take off. Its a 98 lincoln town car executive.

Remove the individual coil packs located under the chrome fuel rails, just above the valve covers. Directley under the coil will be a spark plug boot, remove the boot & spark plug will be set into the hole. Will need about a 6" extention with a 5/8" spark plug socket to access.

2000 lincoln town car executive series sparkplugs

Between the rocker cover and the fuel rail are the coils, one per cylinder hed in place by a smill 8mm bolt. Remove the coil and find the spark plug wire, the arrangement is called a coil-on-plug or COP. Spark plug is in the tube from whince the spark plug wire came. 5/8" deep socket and long extension will reach it. Another hint find some way to clean out the tube before removing the spark plug least all kinds of junk winds up in the cylinder.......SMith
