1985 LTD Crown Vic spits fuel out throttle body, wont fire up

My 1985 Ford LTD Crown Victoria has the 302 with TBI and my mom was driving it when it stalled out, now it turns over but wont start. It spits clouds of gasoline out of the top of the throttle body. Everybody who's looked at it says the timing is bad, or the valves have too low of compression, but i tried timing it and it doesnt help, and the compression in all 8 cylinders are normal. tried pouring fuel into throttle body to prime it and maybe get fire but no luck. I have spark to the plugs too. Whats wrong?

Well, it was completely wrong from what you mentioned, though the intake was slightly clogged, turned out that the throttle body was bad and the injectors took a dump. the timing chain hopped 4 teeth cuz the gear was destroyed.

How could you get a correct compression reading with a jumped chain? It would either blow needle off the dial or read WAY low! Don't tell us you did something - like taking a compression test - when you didn't. We can't help you if you lie!

It could possibly be the timing chain slipped also! Best way to tell is to remove the dist cap, and no. 1 spark plug. place a long screwdriver in the plug hole and hand rotate till piston head reaches top. Then look at distributor to see where the rotor cap points to. should be no. 1 or no. 8 spark wire. if it is no. 8, hand rotate till it tops out again. it could be anywhere from 3 to 180 degrees out of time.

Distributor cap and rotor could have carbon tracks. Replace.

If that does not solve the problem, someone crossed the plug wires. If the compression is normal (as you posted), that rules out a blown head gasket and bad valve. Get a firing order diagram and put the wires on the proper spark plug.

Hate to disagree with you Berlyn, but he said he took a compression test. A slipped chain would either blow the compression off the dial or read REALLY low.

Where can I find a Ford Windsor 302 for a 1985 Crown Victoria LTD Coupe?

You can order a remanufactured engine from any NAPA or Carquest auto parts store (my 1st choice for quality), there are many other sources including Autozone, Advance auto parts and many more. Expect to pay about $1800.00+rebuildable core charge.

Just picked up and 85 Crown Vic with 69k miles on it. Starts right up, but idle is very high. It sat for over a year in a garage without running, but fired right up when jumped. Where can I fine tune-up...

This should be fuel injected. But it is throttle body and it is an early one. It has a choke coil mounted to the passenger side of the throttle body. It doesn't run a choke it just controls fast idle. It might be bad or unhooked. Check for power on this.

There should be a solenoid on the throttle body that kicks the throttle open when the a/c is turned on to keep RPM's up.That solenoid might be faulty or the wiring going to it.Possibly the switch for the a/c also, but check the other things first.
