Check the grounds back there or run new one. Also check the bed to frame grounds. There should be at least one.

Brake lights won't come on after changing brake booster on 97 gmc 1500. Also won't shift into gear.

check for a bad brake light fuse! if not the fuse, the brake light switch operates brake lights and if bad you will not be able to shift it out of park, as well as the brake lights not coming on.! because you have to put foot on brake to do so. if bad switch, it wont let it out of park. it could be just out of adjustment also!! good-day !

If you took the bed off, you would have had to disconnect the ground wire at the left rear frame rail. This is the ground for the fuel pump...The fuel pump won't run without it.

sounds like you may have a hitch installed on your vehicle and the ground wire between it and the taillight is damaged. if it doesnt have a hitch the most likely cause is still a ground at the rear of the truck on the frame rail drivers side where the factory wiring is located for the trailer plug. this is a common issue. i hope this helps

I have a GMC 1997 1500 Sierra. Rear Right Tail light circuit board had been replaced countless times. Bulbs are not the issue. Believe mfg problem and short somewhere. Getting costly. Any ideas to resolve...

I would try to have the wiring checked for a short at an auto electric shop.

They can check for a short to ground using an inductive ammeter on the load wire for the bulb.

Or they could run new wiring from the board to the bulb to see if this corrects the problem.

How do you change a fuel pump on a 2002 GMC sierra, 1500 HD?

Remove the bolts that hold the bed box to the frame, disconnect the rear light wiring harness and the fuel filler pipe. Set up a pair of saw horses or something behind the truck. Then have four guys to lift on all four corners and set the bed on the stand you have ready. The bed is heavy! And there is the fuel pump! Replace with the new and take care to put the wiring harness for the fuel pump back where it was. Replace the bed, bolts and connect the lights. You are ready to go! Takes about two hours if you don't break the welds that hold the nuts for the bed bolts loose. Good luck!
