This is probably an indication of an error condition.
There isn't a lot that can go wrong with the AC; low refrigerant level, compressor failed or the drive belt slipping reducing compression of the refrigerant.
If the system is capable of signaling a fault condition, it may also have stored a code in your on-board computer. Go to one of the chain auto parts stores, most of which offer a free scan of your computer to retrieve the error codes. I'd call first to make sure the trip isn't a disappointment.
