Question about 1997 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

I have a 1997 dodge dakota 3.9L auto trans 4x4. When the trans is cold it shifts good. but sometimes when it warms up it starts shifting at 3500rpm. as soon as it cools down it starts shifting normal again. The transducer and pressure solenoid were recently replaced before I bought the truck. I have only owned the truck for 4 days.

THAT SOMEONE THAT SOLD YOU THAT TRUCK NEW THAT TRUCK HAD A PROBLEM, THEY EVEN THREW AN ADDITIVE TO THE CONDITION THE OILS PERFORMANCE BUT ITS TO LATER FOR THAT. REMOVE THE TRANNY OIL PAN AND CHECK THE PAN FOR MUDDY LOOK-ALIKE BUILT-UP. THE PAN WILL TELL YOU ALOT ONCE REMOVED. IF ITS CLEAN CHECK THE MAGNET SOMEWHERE AROUND THE PAN AND REMOVE THE OIL FILTER AND CHECK FOR CONTAMINATION.

Why is my 97 dodge dakota reluctant to shift from first gear until it warms up

When did you last change the trans fluid and filter? Ever? Do so and you may have a cheap fix, plus adding many miles of use to trans. This fluid and filter should be changed every 24K miles or two years for most vehicles. It's surprising how many folks don't do this. You did read your owner's manual didn't you?

P1784=Pressure switch circuit: LR,

Shifting problems

The transmission/computer is designed not to go into overdrive until it reaches a certain temp and I don't remember what the temp is. Mine does same thing and it has 250,000 miles on it. When you start your truck up do you start it and warm up in neutral? The transmission fluid won't flow unless it is. There is know way to force it to shift into overdrive until it warms to the set temp.

Hope this helps

Troubleshooting code PO753 ECM or PCM.

It is more likely the solenoid, the PCM is very seldom the problem, about 3% of the time to be exact.
