I have a 1989 nissan hardbody d-21 and i can not find the negative side of the coil. im trying to hook up an rpm gauge.

Take the plug wire thats going to the distributor turn the truck over and touch it to something thats grounded when its sparks its hot if not its a neg

All tachometer guages are electric, depending on the year of your vehicle they either hook directly to the computer or the negative side of the ignition coil pack.. If vehicle runs fine and all other guages are working properly it's most likely in the instrument cluster itself..

Im not getting no spark pass distributor


coil pack must be checked it primary and secondary winding. vom or commonly called tester will do this checking,, on positive sign and negative sign hook the tester black and red.. if there is a movement in needle continuity is alright,, on negative side put the red wire and black on the coil head if there is a reading your problem the the voltage supply.

FIRST OF ALL YOU NEED TO REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.SAFELY RAISE SUPPORT TRUCK ON JACK STANDS.THEN YOU REMOVE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FROM STARTER BE SURE TO TAKE NOTE OF LOCATION OF WIRES CONNECTORS ON STARTER.THEN YOU REMOVE STARTER BOLTS THEN STARTER.WHEN PUT IN NEW STARTER TORQUE BOLTS TO 29 - 36 FT LBS.
