If i were you, i'd buy a repair manual and read it first. Thats a big job and to much to explain in typing.

I have a 95 lincoln town car My transmission will not go any faster than 40mph help. I did a transmission filter n oil change n even added some Lucas an still nothing Plz help. Could it be a simple fix....

Kinda vague description. If you mean to say that the car has the engine revving up while only going 40MPH, it would mean you are not getting through all of the gears.

If the engine does not rev up, and you can only go 40MPH with the trans shifting through all of the gears, it is probably not a trans problem.

You need to have a pressure test on the trans if the engine is revving up to only go 40MPH. The main part is a part called a Torque converter. It is the pump supplying pressure to the inside of the trans.

If a trans is slipping, then you can have pressure but the metal parts inside are not gripping.

My best advice is if there are no "check engine" lights on the dash, go to a Repair place which does work on engines. If the problem is the trans, they will send you to a trans shop. Can not say the same for starting with a trans shop. Too many bad operators who would throw in another trans and "discover" it is a simple engine problem after charging you.

Fixya used to have a listing service for good shops. Do not know since internal Format changed here if that is still the case.

Ok ppl i have a 05 lx sedona auto trans and cant find the trans filter on it ok i have read that some ppl say it is in the pan but when i go to buy the kit for it i keep getting a external one like the oil...

The filter is inside the transmission and my parts site shows no external filter. Here are the two part numbers (it goes by transmission tag number) I show and pictures of the parts.
BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0440328
Internal Filter; Transmission Must Be Removed And Disassembled To Change Filter

2005 ford five hundred limited 2wd 6spd trans 139k miles. Recently replaced mounts thinking that would stop the trans from downshifting hard at stopping. But since the replacement the rpm will not go over...

What you might try is changing the Trans fluid and putting in a new Trans filter or cleaning the filter if it is not disposable. If this does not help before replacing parts on the Trans ask if your Model has a Software fix.

Many of the newer vehicles have computer programming to control the Trans behavior. Since changing the mounts made a difference, the old parts were obviously worn. Now you need to smooth out the shift points.

If you want to try 1 cheap part, get a TPS (throttle position sensor) which is on the Airhorn. Its function is to set fuel mix and timing advance and to communicate that to the Trans. If the Trans does not know how far the throttle is open, I can see it would not know when to shiift or downshift.

SLUGGISH TRANSMISSION

Discribe sluggish. Changing the fluid has nothing to do with shift stratagy or correct trans operation. Change the filter every time you do the fluid, unless your just pulling the plug every year or so,to change some fluid.
These vehicles have a tendency to have a bad Trans Solenoid Pack. If it bangs into reverse or shifts funny around 35 to 40 on a slight hill, that part may be going bad.
You need a proper working EGR Valve and TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) also.
Don't forget to flush the Power Steering Fluid--although unrelated to the trans.

Trans--Mercon V Fluid
Steering--Mercon (Not V)

P0745 Pressure control solenoid malfunction.

How many miles on the car?trans?
High miles =complete trans change.
Low miles= just the solenoid.

Did you check for a low mileage used trans?
All cars run on used parts.
Also a independent trans shop may do the job for less.
I would estimate....change pressure solenoid and fluid/filter change...about $400

i have the same problem with me 2000 montana. i was told that it was the tcc switch. it means that the torque converter is stuck in the on postion. to fix the problem i was told either to swap out the tranny with another used one or to have the switch replaced. the switch is internal and they need to drop the trans down to access the panel on the front driver side. the part is only $90 but its 3 hours labour.
