the fuel pump reset switch is on the fuel pump located at the top of the gas tank,(its usually a red or blue reset switch)

Im having problems with my 2001 3.8 v6 camaro. it wont start most of the time and when it does start it immediately stalls. i can hear the fuel pump turn on and the car turns over normal. any ideas on what...


Most GM vehicles from the mid 80's to around the mid 2000's have this problem. The problem is the "antitheft" systems that GM has been using. The number one symptom of this problem is seeing a light on the dash that says SECURITY. Read this link for info on these systems and some DO IT YOURSELF ways to fix it forever.

Camaro died, changed fuel pump and relay and still nothing. It clicks and doesn't pump


It's that infamous "chip" in the key that becomes a nightmare to many. The security light may or may not start flashing. Sometimes it stays on steady. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it will start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
QUICK FIX TRICKS
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down with use and so do the keys causing the security to fail.
2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, I'm sorry I have no quick fix...
CHEAP FIX: Bypass the chip in your key. This is temporary, but effective until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out. Then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

If you're gonna tear your car apart anyway, just do this next fix and bypass it all together. Its more money, less work, and a PERMANENT fix. Up to you tho.

NEVER WORRY AGAIN FIX: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. It took longer to find the solution than it did to fix the problem. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... It can cost anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link.

How do you bypass the security system in a 96 chevy camaro? Can a in -line fuel pump be used instead of replacing the in tank pump?


You cannot draw fuel through the old pump. If you want to convert to external pump, you will have to install a new take-up in the tank.

For passkey II, the procedure at http://vats.likeabigdog.com/ works to bypass the ignition switch, but it will not bypass the whole system.

I believe it is on or next to the fuel pump in your tank witch is usually on the top of the tank.

Chevy camaro engine problem


could be fuel or spark. when it dies you need to check to make sure there is fuel pressure in the fuel rail. if you follow the rail around your injectors you will see a schrader valve(like a tire valve stem). push on it and see if fuel sprays out. wear safety glasses when doing this since the fuel should be under pressure. if there is no fuel there then it is either fuel filter or fuel pump. if there is fuel then is a problem with the ignition system

Fuel pump


A fuel pressure gauge is the most accurate way. You can turn the key on and listen for a humming sound, that tells you the pump is running, but dosn't mean it's completely functional.
