You don't. That's why the car has a computer. Do you have a check engine light? A clogged fuel filter can cause this problem, but will cause the ECU to log errors which can be read out with a OBD tool.

What is lambda control at lean limit for proton gen2

Air/fuel mix is too lean and beyond computer limits of adjustment. Check for vacuum leaks , restricted fuel filter or low fuel pressure.

Code 171,172,300 ford taurus 2000 3.0

P0171 too lean (with both that means its HUNTING all over)
P0172 to rich AFR (air fuel ratio ) fuel mix.
P0300 (this will cause above and the reverse.
in English,(not jargon) it means the fuel mix is out of control
300s is random misfire.
to find the reason, takes tools and tests.
you can guess , and best guess always is to complete

How does a 02 sensor work on the emission

The O2 sensor measures the fuel/mix after it has been burned. The O2 can tell if the engine is running rich or lean and constantly adjusts the fuel mix to a proper level. As a secondary function, there is usually a pair of O2 sensors before and after the Catalytic converter.

The readings from the first sensor are compared to the readings of the second sensor to rate the efficiency of the Catalytic converter.

Can i drive my rodeo with a stuck open thermostat whats down fall

YOU WILL LOT OF FUEL CONSUMPTION. A OPEN OR MISSING THERMOSTAT WILL CAUSE VECHICLE STAY IN OPEN LOOP.ENGINE WILL BURN RICH BURN MORE FUEL.YOUR THERMOSTAT ALLOWS COOLANT TEMPERATURE TO GET AT A SET POINT WHERE ECM OR PCM ADJUST FUEL SYSTEM FROM OPEN LOOP RICH MIXTURE FOR COLD ENGINE TO CLOSED LOOP TO LEAN OUT FUEL SYSTEM AS ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GET HOT.YOU NEED TO REPLACE THERMOSTAT.OPEN THERMOSTAT WILL CAUSE NO HEAT PROBLEMS ALSO.

P1131,p1151,p0174

Hello,
P1131 = Lack of HO2S11 switch - sensor indicates lean, ( upstream heated oxygen sensor )
This oxygen sensor is located before the catalytic converter, ( refered to as UPSTREAM )

P1151 = Lack of HO2S21 switch - sensor indicates lean, ( could be up, or downstream heated oxygen sensor ) " Downstream ", meaning after the catalytic converter.

PO174 = System too lean, ( bank 2 ) The fuel/air mix ratio is bad.

These DCT codes are generally caused by a problem with the emissions system. The following items are a few of the most common items to trigger those codes.

1. Dirty air filter. ( very common )
2. Faulty idle air control valve. ( common )
3. MAF, ( mass air flow ), sensor. ( very common )

All 3 of the above can prevent the onboard computer from determining the proper fuel/air mix ratio.
The oxygen sensors measure to insure the fuel/air mix produces maximum power with minimal emissions.

I hope this helps you.

2002 Toyota Rav4....check engine light""is

Here are two of the most common causes of the check engine light.

Most common, MAF ( mass air flow ), sensor. A faulty MAF prevents the computer from determining the correct fuel/air mix ratio.

Oxygen sensor. ( front and rear, front meaning before the catalytic converter, rear meaning after the catalitic converter. The front measures the fuel/air mix being sent through the catalitic converter, the back measures the emmisions and lets the computer know if any fuel/air mix ratios need to be adjusted. Both of these can trigger the check engine light.

I hope this helps you.

2002 Chevy Van with a 3400 code po171 too lean how to fix

Code PO171- Lean mix of Bank 1.
Code PO174- Lean mix of Bank 2.

Most of the time a P0171 and P0174 is caused by either a vacuum leak--more than likely the PCV hose and valve or a dirty or defective Mass Airflow (MAF)sensor. Low fuel pressure can also cause this condition. The PCV hose is located on bank one but can affect both sides because the other end is located on the back of the upper intake manifold. Usually they deteriorate and get a hole in it.

Clean the the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner, which you can pick up at any Auto parts store and also pick up a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Good luck and hope this helps.

Adjusting fuel pump

If you have the 91 3.1 V6 Rodeo you can't adjust the fuel pump or fuel pressure. The only thing you can really do is to get a throttle body rebuild kit that will have a new diaphragm for the fuel pressure regulator. If you want to adjust it, you'll have to get an aftermarket regulator and install on the return line (the smaller line) and remove the spring out of the regulator on the throttle body. If you feel the fuel pressure is too low, then you might need to change the pump. Its located in the fuel tank, only takes 1 or 2 hours to do.
