Question about 1984 Nissan 300ZX

Replaced thermostat on 1984 300zx non turbo. no water leaking any where. still getting hot, only small bubbles in resivoir tank. top hoses very hot. lower hose not hot any suggestions?

You may have air trapped in the system, or there may be a blockage somewhere. usually, a blockage would be in the heater core. to check, remove both heater hoses going into the heater core and try to flush it out with a garden hose. it's also possible that the water pump is faulty.

    Have you checked good for leaks while the engine is running? Sometimes things do not leak while the engine is off.

Change your water pump for sure and check all those little tubes that run right beside and under it.

I doubt the radiator is plugged up. The hose should be cooler coming out of the radiator than going in (top).
If the overflow tank is bubbling it could be from the hot coolant, or you could have a head gasket leak and allowing compression - exhaust into the cooling system.

MY 2002 Montana rus hot when stopped and I have to keep filling the water resivoir on my Montana. There is no leaks, I just replaced the water pump. Where is the water going ?


Out the exhaust pipe. Check the radiator for bubbles. Fill it up to the neck, run the engine to warm it up, give the top hose a couple of squeezes to clear any air from the system. Any continuing bubbles at the filler means a leaking head gasket. Also check the oil for any water.

THEN U MOST LIKELY HAVE A LEAKING HEAD GASKET, VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS V8 NORTHSTAR ENGINE.

where is it leaking from? is it low in water from leaking? there is a hole on top of your water pump if the seals go bad in it thenit will leak water till the piont thatit gets low and cause heating.check for location and let me know.last thing you want to say is blown headgasket

Car was running hot. found out water pump was going bad, replaced that. tempeture guage still not working properly and my heat is not getting hot


When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

Do the air purge test below.

The fins/turbine on water pump can be totally worn out.

Running hot


If you are loosing antifreeze with no apparent leak you may have a serious internal engine problem and should seek professional help. Stop driving the truck until you can have it looked at. If you are not loosing any coolant, then Service the cooling system. Drain and slush the radiator, replace the thermostat, clean the radiator fins, pour in a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and distilled water, and bleed all air from the system. Inspect the water pump to see if it is pumping correctly.
